When i was at a tournament a week ago i picked up a few Donic 3 star plastic balls. Or club is still using the celluloid so this was just to have a bit of a hit.

Last night a few mates had a bit of a hit and we first started using an Andro 3 star that i bought about 5 years ago. Its been played with for many hours, so much that the logo on the ball is fading. It eventually cracked so i went to my bag to get a Donic ball.

The ball played well however after about a half hour it cracked. Wasn't unexpected though a little disappointed.

I've played 2 tournaments with the Butterfly plastic ball involving about 15 matches and not had a breakage.

I was considering changing our club to the plastic ball next order however i dont think i will now, especially not using the Donic ball.

Pretty much all the seamed plastic balls on the market (including the Butterfly ones) are made either by DHS or Double Fish, and are re-badged to the new brand. Although there are differences in characteristics, I'm not so sure there is much difference in consistency or durability, as both these aspectsd vary quite a bit from batch to batch. :( I've used balls from several different brands, some play ok and seem durable, and then next time they last less than a match.
Only the seamless seem more durable in my experience, but the characteristics are quite different... higher bounce, less spinny in my experience. I don;t mind the bounce, and like the durability, but I don't like the reduced spin.

If you can, I'd stick to celluloid as long as you can, and only for those players that play in tournaments should start practicing with plastic balls (the actual ball used for the event).

Used this ball for about 3 hours last night, no problems. Didn't notice any difference to the celluloid. Interesting though that when performing a simple bounce test out of my hand against a celluloid DHS 1* both onto a table and onto the floor, the Donic Polyball was clearly a lower bounce.

I used this ball and in 5 minutes i was ajusted to play with it...

I think, based on personal experience and a lot of posts here, if you were to choose a plastic ball, the obvious choice would be a seamless (Yinhe, XuShaoFa, KingNik, etc.). The KingNiks are cheapest in bulk - I'm seriously considering buying a bunch and selling them locally. There's someone in Thailand selling them in smaller quantities on ebay, prices are reasonable. They've just come out with a 1 star as well.

BTW/ Tibhar 40+SL (seamless) available now from minkow`s storehous. Just have a friendly talk to them/ Honey tongue should help/

They might not sell to you, though, if they already have a dealer in your location. The Euro branded balls are more likely to be "embargoed" than the Kingnik balls, though.

Having tried almost all of the brands we would also deem the seamless balls to be better in quality and durability. There are some subtle differences in each brand of the seamed balls but across the board they seem to be less durable on the whole than the seamless variants.

Xushaofa gets our vote for the best plastic ball to date with the Nittaku Premium taking the cake for the best seamed ball (they have a specialised production process which helps the ball feel more like celluloid).
