Is anyone on the OOAK using the DHS 40+ in competition / tournaments ?

Yes, our state started using them since last year for both major competition and tournaments. Early batches had a high breakage rate, later batches a lot better. Bounce is still lower than celluloid, but spin is quite good..almost as high as celluloid. Kick off the table (from high spin balls) is more than with celluloid, curve in the air is less, but still quite good.

Good to hear the feedback since I had no reason to stick with the DHS or their clones.

it refers to TSW changing to the Stag (XSF) ball. Will that impact on your district - do you see the DHS 40+ being dropped ?

Your experience of the DHS seems similar to the BTY 40+ (not the G40) where it had a lower hop. A characteristic I experienced with the BTY was that it had a tendency to go short if you were back from the table forcing you to stay tight.

The choice of balls is usually (always?) related to sponsorship. Each state in AU chooses their own, although they are influenced by the choice of ball used for National tournaments, which are chosen by Table Tennis Australia (also via sponsorship).

Our club changed from DHS to Hanno (rebranded XSF) because of ball breakage. Spin difference between DHS and Hanno (XSF) is huge. After playing with curl P4 i changed to GD Talon because with P4 i could not generate enough backspin. The ball bounces higher and you're backspin balls get killed. I could not believe it as P4 is maybe the grippiest long pimple.

Hmmmm... Does less backspin cause a higher bounce? Or is it the opposite? I know that more topspin makes for a lower bounce (since the ball is kicked forward by the spin).

No, the Hanno/XSF ball just bounces higher than the DHS ball. But combined with less backspin you are sitting duck and get hammered.
