On Sunday afternoon in our family room I bared my innermost sole. I had grown callous. It was horrible. I was so cut up about it. I left some of it on the dining table. I felt ripped off. Now I am a looser.

When the inner soles of my sport shoes go, they go around the ball of the foot and the big toe. My current table tennis shoes (Adidas Trail Runners, go figure), about 15 months old, have gone like this. On Sunday our local Aldi had one set of so-called orthotic neat physio work inner soles for sale so I bought them for $A12. In the afternoon I ripped off the existing Adidas inner sole and trimmed the one-size-fits-all Aldi inner sole to fit. Playing on Monday night was good for my sole, and I hope it lasts. The only small issue was having the laces looser as there is slightly less room for the foot in the shoe as the new inner sole is thicker.

It just goes to shoe you.

A German saying translates as "Did you have a clown for lunch?" if someone talks like that. So please tell me: how does he taste (the clown)?

I suspect that the shopping basket contained more than an inner sole. Aldi is a great place to buy cheap alcohol. ;)

A pair of Holey Soles may fit you looser.

They might help to relieve your callous sole, but do not play with Holey Soles!

I thought there was a Lidl rumour about another German retailer coming as well. Just can't remember the name.

I just heard of these stores called Don Quijote. Unfortunately most of them are in Japan, but they've opened one in Singapore where they had to rename it "Don Donki" because there was already a bar called Don Quijote. In any case, it's supposedly great for Sappy Brand underwear...

My most sincere apologies. There was a time when Germany presented itself by opening Goethe Institutes all over the world. Now its Aldi, Lidl, Kaufland. Do you have Netto, Kik, Tedi or Penny yet?

But it could be worse. Just have a look at Lloret de Mar or Mallorca in summer. Believe me, you don't want to experience germans en masse.

Goethe Institutes?? I thought the Chinese were alone with the Confucius Institutes that they're opening everywhere to promote Xi Jinping Thought...
