So, I know per the rules and regulation of our favorite sport that there are no restrictions on handle design BUT… I haven't seen anyone using a handle that is made of a bendable or dynamically bendable material. Now, before anyone asks, "what the heck good would such a handle yield?" let us just assume for the moment I have a promising purpose in mind. I believe it would TECHNICALLY be legal, but would it hold up to the scrutiny of umpires in matches if they'd never seen something like it before???

Um.. if it's TECHNICALLY legal, then there's no rule against it. And it shouldn't matter what "scrutiny" the umpires apply, it really isn't up to them - they apply the rules, not make them up as they go along. Of course, you could end up at one of Igor's tournaments.. He'll claim such a handle isn't "continuous" or other such nonsense.

The handle neck is made from rattan :P

No specific rule to forbid adding a "flexible neck" at table tennis handle AFAIK. :)

Just curious, but do you actually have a promising purpose in mind, or are you just saying hypothetically?

I actually do have a promising purpose in mind! I realized that in order to make best use of my previous work on an alternative handle (and by alternative I mean VERY alternative) it would be far easier to make a "slightly" flexible handle to modify the paddle angle for certain shots. I would set to work on creating this flexible handle and show it off, but right now I'm on an internal medicine rotation (aka 80+ hour work weeks, haha). Perhaps once my rotation is over!!

Thx for the feedback everyone :D
