I reckon if we go on about it, one of 3 things will happen:
1. Silver will think - 'a hah, those blokes are right, I better turn the significant digits dial down to 2';
2. Silver will think - 'shoot, I like lots of numbers, I'm going to leave it just as it is' :P
3. Silver gets a dose of 'I'm sick of people saying rude things about my numbers, I'm going to take them away never to be seen again'.

I was primarily suggesting one more input field & a related equation (ie known calibrated source y/n? If yes, x2 entry before averaging).

The other suggestion was showing the cut weight the numbers equal for several example blades. Once the equations were setup, this would be no extra on-going work.

I'd love to see Silver's excellent work turn into a widely referenced wiki, linked to by TT forums everywhere. This is extremely useful information.

I thought that this question will following. In the past I tried this with a "Durometer". Now I use my fingertip to feel the hardness. I know that this is not very scinetific but it's enough to compare the hardness between the spong and the topsheet.

On the tt-news forum I put a list with backside (#15) and pips-out (#32) rubbers where I compared the hardness between the spong and the topsheet. I used + for rubbers with softer spongs then the topsheet and - for softer topsheets then the spong. 0 is about the same hardness.

My theory is that +-rubbers (e.g. BTY) with a low throw angle apply to harder woods and - rubbers with a high throw angle (e.g. many chinese rubbers) apply to softer woods. Tuning is for me a possiblility to make a balance between the wood and the spong.

Hi friends

Brand: Friendship
Model: Super 729 FX (Soft)
Type: In
Colour: Black
Spong thickness: 1.0 mm
Spong hardness: 35°
Topsheet thickness: 1.6 mm
Topsheet hardness: 38°
Uncut Mass: 16.3 cm x 16.3 cm
Uncut weight: 44 g
g/cm2: 0.165
Throw angle (flat to bold): 2 (5)

Perhaps some of you can verify the properties of the topsheet.

Topsheet hardness bigger then 5° as the spong hardness would produce a very low throw angle 1 (5).
Topsheet hardness bigger then 1° as the spong hardness would produce a low throw angle 2 (5).
Topsheet hardnessl till +1°/-1° then the spong hardness will produce a medium throw angle 3 (5).
Spong hardness bigger then 1° as the topsheet hardness would produce a high throw angle 4 (5).
Spong hardness bigger then 5° as the topsheet hardnes would produce a very high throw angle 5 (5).

Thanks, Martin

Topsheet hardness bigger then 5° as the spong hardness would produce a very flat curve 1 (5).

Topsheet hardnessl till +1°/-1° then the spong hardness has a neutral curve 3 (5).
Spong hardness bigger then 1° as the topsheet hardness would produce a bold curve 4 (5).
Spong hardness bigger then 5° as the topsheet hardnes would produce a very bold curve 5 (5).

By 'curve' you're referring to the path of the ball when you loop, right?

It's not only when looping. It's also when defending with backspin or hitting a ball. I mean the angle when the ball leaves the racket. What are the correct words for this circumstance?

There is much confusion about what the correct terms are... I see the following terms as meaningful for looping type strokes:

1. Throw angle - the angle the ball comes off your bat for a loop
2. Arc - the path the ball takes after it leaves your racket... obviously a combination of speed and spin...

I'm missing Yinhe MW 9000 and FS 729 Focus I that I've posted here at the Rubber Mass Database. ;)

Thanks

The Focus I was in there.
Just put the 9000 in. I'd prefer it if you gave a mass in grams instead of the grams.cm^-2.

Hey Silver

Sorry, I forgot it for the 9000. The weight of the uncut rubber is 76 grams.
