I've previously got mine from Eacheng and have
always got good balls.

other sellers are selling large quantities (e.g. 144, 120, 90 balls) at even lower prices-
which is rather tempting: they're about the same price as most training balls.

What risks are there that these may be fakes??

anyone else had experiences of buying from these ebay sellers.

One of the clubs I train at uses DHS *** balls and I find even the good ones poorer than the 'better' makes (Stiga, BTY,Nittaku, Tsp) such that I use my own. One the other week had a really sharp seam. Absolutely useless. No idea where they got them from, I'll ask.........

Yeah, I guess the Olympic and World Championship committees don't know what they're doing using such an inferior ball. |(

"Official Ball for 26th, 43rd, 49th, W.T.T.C. and 27th, 28th Olympic Games."

The QC for the balls that make the open market may not quite match that of those sent to the tournaments.......

Alternatively the club I play at may have got fakes from a bad source.

Either way, those I use there are very poor.

No problem, sorry if I sounded too sarcastic. Wasn't trying to be personal. Sorry.

I've had good luck with DHS 3-star balls myself purchased from a reliable source (Cole Ely) so I'm about 99.99% sure they are not fake. It could also be possible that use of the DHS for Oympics, etc, is a political thing or something they paid for, i.e., "the official ball of the Olympics." But I doubt that if they were absolutely no good that no amount of money would satisfy the players at that level. On the other hand you may be correct that DHS ships them thousands of balls and someone picks out only the best ones to use in the official events, then they repackage the rest and re-sell them. They do that for DHS rubbers so maybe balls too? ;)

I just wrote a big reply, and then I clicked submit, and then it gave me some page that I closed before I could read it, just having a habit of closing the window after clicking submit.

Anyway, basically:

I think that the really cheap chinese sellers that sell them for less than $1 a ball, and don't have a whole heap of feedback, cannot be trusted. There's one guy who sells what I see to be fakes, and he has around 150 positive feedback, so they must be good fakes. You can see that quite a few of those sellers use all the same pictures, and I remember a while back when I was looking at buying about 144 of them for cheap, and looked closely, I could see the writing on the ball was all black, as opposed to there being blue writing on the genuine ball. See here: http://www.tabletennisforum.gr/forum_po ... em-genuine

So, I recommend you stick to sellers who have well over 1000 feedback or so, all positive, and most of all, have their balls around $1 each to buy. This seller seems fairly good:

I bought 144 DHS *** balls off ebay for about $50 USD total inc postage.

I gave half of them to my club I used to play with and had no complaints. Haven't found a bad one yet, and after about 6 months using them I haven't had one crack while I was using it.

I will post the ebay seller if anyone is interested.

They are almost definitely not real, but they must be good fakes if there are no complaints!

My money would be on them being real. And if they are fake they would be of the same quality or even higher than any DHS ball I have used.

When you think about what a tt ball is made of you are relly getting ripped off if you pay more than a $1 for one :|

No offence taken. It seems the best advice is, if you want DHS***, best buy from a reputable source (and Cole is certainly one).

Personally I am put off them by having such a bad experience of playing with balls marked as DHS***; be they genuine or fake I have no idea.

As an aside, it does amaze me how some very good players can be using a really poor ball and not notice!

I just think that we spend so much time and money on the sport why ruin it by trying to save a little money on the ball- the most important piece of equipment along with the bat.

We've had very few issues with our either, and many of the clubs here use them and they come back for more. SOme of the ones I've seen on Ebay had different logo's / colours on them, which out doubt in my mind that they were genuine, but they may just be for their local market...

I must say, i get mine from Presports, i have never had a poor one, they are hard, round and consistent, they last along time too, if ordered in bulk, it offsets the postage charge somewhat too to make them economically worthwhile! ;)

I already compared it with a genuine DHS 3 Star from Eacheng. The ones from Ebay feels more like Double Fish 2 Star to me. Pretty good deal for club and training use.
