I think this blade has a soft inner/core wood its soft so that it can be tented easily with a afinger nail. but ti doesnt seem to be balsa, or maybe it is

Nice piece of wood.

Is that unusual for the glue to stay on the blade like that? First time I've ever removed a rubber the same thing happened to me.

How did you get it off? I used the old rub it with a rubber glove trick and it pulled back pretty easy.

I don't know what it is but it is balsa. I was going to say it might be an early version of Yasaka's balsa? but without the J.T.T.A stamp I'd have to say it's an early balsa from Donic or Joola or something else European but probably not from TSP Germany :^)

The pinhole pores in the core suggests cork, which is consistent with the softness you describe.

I know some Friendship/Bomb blades and LKT blades have cork core. Also I believe Lion used to make one, but yours looks like a 7-ply and I believe all Lion blades are 5-ply. Your blade looks to be a few years, so it's not unlikely that it is out of production.
Don't know of others, but then again I don't know very much about various blades. For all I know all major manufacturers have cork core blades.

Can you make out anything at all from the embossing in the logo area on the handle?

I would say a Stiga probably a Hans Asler or something similar but you are missing the bottom sticke. This is not a big deal I suppose as the other sticker is gone too-but the one that should be on the base of the handle didnt leave a mark-plus it does not look like a hans Asler!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is my forensic conclusion-hope it helped.
