I would suggest:

729 bomb blade
super 729 fx (chinese) or Sriver L (Euro/jap)
Sriver fx

My coach told me to get the tbs form my first blade but my friend told me that it was the wrong setup for me because i'm just a beginner. He said that learning table tennis with a tbs is kind of like learning to drive with a sports car. Just something to keep in mind what buying your first blade/rubber. Just don't buy something that ur friend whos been playing for 4+ years is using.

JO Waldner is another great rubber to start off with and continue to use.

I just whacked my sheets on my waldner senso carbon.

IMHO JO Waldner is better than sriver, Jo is spinnier,faster and it has more control.

a lot of beginners at my club seem to start with
Andro all+ (kinetic or regular) blade with
2x 1.8(?) Andro Impulse on it.

(not impulse speed.. regular slow impulse)

and most seem to move to sriver fx after.

IMHO impuls is too soft to start with better try a slightly harder rubber like Vari Spin or Sriver FX.

IMHO the best rubber for starting with is Mark V. Considering a beginner/intermediate will not glue, it's one of the best rubbers unglued (better than Sriver family, glued Srivers are another story for sure). Enough speed, very nice spin, medium sponge and nice control. I'd also recommend med/soft feel blades. Samsonov Alpha, Samsonov Premium Contact, Primorac OFF-, OC, Energy, Waldner SC, Appelgren Allplay, Dawei Matrix, Galaxy W6, 729 Bomb, Yasaka Extra/3D,.. so on.

837 is a good choice for starting out with long pips
It is cheap and it is very easy and fun to use.
Sponge or no sponge its up to your own personal choice

Hmm, first blade might be a Yasaka Extra 3D or something similar. Maybe a Butterfly Petr Korbel. I'd recommend a Stiga Off/Clipper to someone who likes a larger grip than I do.

As for the rubbers, I guess cheap control rubbers would do fine. Mayhap 729s have a nice lineup. Or a PF4. Maybe not Globes at this stage, kinda tacky.

For those who have a taste for softer, bouncier sheets, maybe the good old Mark V, Sriver EL, or Mendo Energy. If they weren't pricey compared to a sheet of Globe 999 Nat.

Err, those were influenced by what I could readily get from my market.

First blade that comes to mind is the Stiga Offensive Classic with average speed on the soft side rubbers. like sriver fx and el.

I guess, the suggestions for best blades for beginners will probably be as varied as the number of people making them. But at the same time I think there are certain basics that every beginner should stick to and I think he will be just fine.

1. Don't use max rubbers, stick to a max thickness of 2.1mm, better to stay under 2mm.
2. Don't use extremely tacky rubbers either since that will make the incoming spin very difficult to control
3. Don't use carbon blades, try to stick to the wood blades to start off with
4. If you go by ratings, stick will ALL or ALL- blades, unless you are very defensive then you can go with a DEF blade.
5. Try to use a slower rubber on the backhand, at least for starters.

I started with a Butterfly Timo Boll with 1.9mm Flextra rubbers

A few months later I moved up to a Matsushita Pro (DEF) with Sriver and Yasaka Mark V in max thicknesses (the faster rubbers balanced the very slow blade)

Now I am planning a move to a Donic Persson Powerplay with Mark V on both sides, since I am equally offensive on the back hand and the forehand.
