For those players who's club has changed to plastic balls, which ball have you changed to?

I believe none of our local clubs have made a decision yet.

At club level, it'll take some sort of leadership to make the change to plastic balls. Sure, there might be outside pressure from larger bodies, like Victorian or Australian table tennis associations, but most clubs have a fairly flat hierarchy that can be slow to move on new ideas and fiddly changes. Ballarat Table Tennis hasn't moved to plastic balls and I can't see it going that way for a long while, unless someone takes the lead and organises it. If it's an inevitable change then it should be encouraged.

I would be very interested to know what Table Tennis Victoria will decide on plastic balls. One of the absolute highlights of table tennis for me is an event called Country Week. Over 300 players descend on Melbourne for a long weekend bash. Great fun.

But will they be using plastic balls?

I wonder how much the sponsor (supplier of tournament balls) has a say in the matter?

People here who play many formal competitions are using plastic balls. The ones used most are XSF, NP40+ and Double Fish. We have adopted XSF for our future competitions. At my urging, I have gotten a lot of people to switch to XSF. The Chinese seamed balls are unpopular and are used when people are trining for a tournament where they will be used.

After trying out the plastic balls, we're still using celluloid. I guess we'll switch over when the USATT tournaments do, but most aren't using plastic yet.

Good to see some European teams using the seamless balls.

Yinhe is sponsoring a big tournament in Sacramento with their seamless balls.

I have a suspicion that here in US most of the clubs don't provide the balls and thus don't really face this decision at the club level. Everyone plays with whatever they happen to have.

Having said that - our club is probably 50/50 celluloid/plastic right now - and I think I saw pretty much every model of plastic ball used. I usually bring XSF/Yinhe seamless ones :) .

Our North Carolina club started with the Nittaku poly (China) seamed entirely in September, 2014 and used it in a sponsored tournament. Very quickly, found that (1) its breakage was outrageous and (2) that the XSF seamless had a better consistency in its trajectory and (at that time) was 1/2 the cost. Since November, 2014 we only use XSF seamless and are quite happy. Unfortunately, we have found that the XSF seamless is now harder to find and its price has now moved to the USD1.50-2.25/ball range.

In Winnipeg, Canada, we are using Joola plastic balls at the Table Tennis Federation. They play nice, they are a bit heavier, and have a bit less spin.

At a recent tournament, the director said that we used to break 4 or 5 celluloid balls per tournament, but we now broke 40 plastic balls in this one tournament. :headbang:

I thought I'd revive this topic, to see if a few more clubs have made decisions on which plastic balls they'll be using.

Ours have decided to do with DHS plastic balls.

Has not even come up in a discussion at our club. We're still using the old and won as long as we can. We can't afford to spend 50% more on balls that last half as long.
