Interesting. I assume this problem became worse and worse over time?

Absolutely. When I first got the rubber, it was almost perfectly flat. I've since re-glued the rubber a number of times (had some pretty serious issues with the blue Donic glue in that I couldn't get the bloody rubber to stay on the blade longer than a single playing session) and although it curled, it was never this bad until when I last took it off.

It was practically ungluable. It was like I'd anti-boosted it with layers and layers of boost

Any idea what causes that, Iskander?

Oh... and does anyone know how to avoid the topsheet/sponge separation when boosting? In this instance I put a reasonably thick layer of boost on which may have been the problem I guess (I needed it to anti-curl ASAP).

Hard to say, obviously the sponge is now smaller than the topsheet, but was this because the sponge shrank or the topsheet grew? Or both? Or is it a relative thing (topsheet grew, but the sponge grew less - or both shrank, but the topsheet shrank less...)? Only before and after measurements would reveal the answer, I think.

When you boost, the sponge expands first, which is why you get a dome. After a while the booster gets into the topsheet and it also expands so the sheet flattens out (and is now bigger so the edges need to be trimmed). What happens as the booster wears off? Do both sponge and topsheet shrink to their original size? Back in the speedglue days we were told you had to remove the rubber from the blade after playing because this shrinkage would cause stress on the rubber. We don't remove the rubber until we want to boost it again, maybe this stress causes the problem?? Or maybe it's just a case of the sponge shrinking more when the booster wears off than the topsheet does regardless of whether you remove it from the blade or not...

So... I'm having the same problem again.

I reboosted an old H3N (2.15mm sponge). It worked beautifully for a week or two but now when I'm playing a "grippy roll" (i.e. where I try to fine-brush the ball from off the table to use their spin to kick the ball back), I'm encountering a lot of difficulties where the ball makes a funny "sizzling" type noise and the ball just falls off.

If I move forward with the ball when playing this shot, making the stroke more active and engaging the sponge, it works no problem at all... but that's not the shot I'm trying to achieve.

I've boosted this rubber twice. First time, I peeled off all the glue and boosted. Second time, I boosted over the glue. Could the latter perhaps be the problem?

How humid was it when this happened? I've had something similar happen to me but (as Der Echte has described elsewhere) it had to do with very high humidity, not a rubber condition. Apparently a lot of rubbers have this problem, one that doesn't is 999. He recommended having one racket with 999 on it just in case. Not saying your problem is the same as what I experienced, but it's worth asking.

It has been a steady 8-10 degrees celsius every day for past fortnight so I don't think humidity is my issue!

No, doesn't sound like it..

Does the rubber do this every time you play now? Is it still tacky?
