I have just obtained a friendship 729 dr evil short pip rubber in ox and a a tibhar super 40 defence rubber in 0.5mm.
Being a tennis player i like to use my own body movement to power through the shots and can loop on either side with a low thickness rubber and also like to drive on my f/h.I also like to chop now and again on the b/h.I have several blades and would like some advice on what blade to put these on.If i like dr evil i may put it on both sides in ox.I have the following blades(please dont laugh.
1-tibhar defence plus
2-butterfly grubba all plus
3-Sanwei C2
Sanwei CC
Sanwei C6
Sanwei V9
Sanwei V1
Sanwei Hammer
Sanwei V6
Sanwei HC.6
Sanwei Zebra
Sanwei HC.3
i purchased the offensive sanwei blades at a silly job lot price so couldnt resist.
I have heard that a very good player uses a fast blade and plays with dr evil on both sides.
Many thanks

The super defence is a pretty slow inverted, so I'd lean toward a more offensive bat if you want to have attacking power. I know you said you like to use your body's power, but you'll be surprised what damage you can do in TT to your body having to put in more power from it. You can save injury providing some power from your setup. In tennis you get a lot of the power from the strings of the racket as well as your body. So don't be fooled to thinking you don't need some of this from your bat as well in TT. Of curse a faster blade then makes the Dr. Evil harder to control. So it comes down to a trade-off between the 2 rubbers as to what blade will balance things out between them. If you find the inverted needs more power on a blade that suits the Dr. Evil for you, then look for a faster inverted rubber. If you like the SD on a blade, you might find another pip worth seeking. Not a LOT of people, in my experience, have liked Dr. Evil a whole lot. With that many blades though, you've got a lot of combinations to try to start with....start gluing!

Hi PeterPong,

Martin Gunn is a UK vett who plays with Dr Evil on both sides of a tibhar chila light blade.
He is ranked around 100 in the UK Mens.
I posted a video of him in the following link: -

http://ooakforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&p=305953#p305953

Hope it helps.

I've played Martin, and he can generate good power (and spin)...but then he's a big lad!

Iskandar

Dr evil is not as bad as the kokutaku clitter rubber.
Tried this on a defensive blade(bad move)
Rubber is interesting and you can really drive through the ball on both the f/h and b/h.The touch game is dreadfull though.
Its a hitters rubber and you can really use force.
Im going to try this on a fast blade.

Hi Peter. I'd be really interested to know how you go. I too come from a strong tennis background and have recently switched to TT. I've got some dr evil on a Stiga AllRound Classic. The dr evil is great. It basically allows you to just play tennis on the table. Hit through spin and use your natural ability to move the ball around, and really pound a winner when an opening emerges. But the Stiga makes a horrible "ping" with the dr evil. How did you go with the setup?

I used Dr Evil on my Andro Hiloom, and liked it a lot. I disagree that the touch game is poor... you just need soft hands. It didn't make too much of a PLINK noise on my blade (with OX pips on the other side)

With such a thin rubber the touch game will be down to two things only; your blade and mastery of blade angle.

...and as LC correctly points out, soft hands when required.
