Hello,
I didnt play tt for some years now.
But now I will play again and need a good bat for learning some techniques.
The bat should be around 60 Euro.
I like to play defensive but I dont know if its good to alrdy choose a style for a beginner so I hope some1 can help me.
And what you think about chinese rubbers for a beginner player?
I alrdy tried to configure a bat for me:
Blade: TSP Allround
FH: 1,5 or 1,8mm Imperial Superstrike
BH: 1,5 mm Imperial Super Strike
What you think about that for a beginner?

Haven't heard about the rubber you mentioned. For Chinese rubbers I would recommend: Dawei 2008, KTL/LKT Pro XP, Yinhe/Galaxy 9000 3*. These are good all round, something to ease you back into the game. You can venture out to others much later on if needed.

60 Euro??????? Why, that won't buy you much, you need one of those newfangled Stiga Carbonado blades and the latest Tibhar EL-S rubbers, minimum it'll set you back 200 Euro.

Just kidding... Get a Yinhe N11 and any one of those Chinese $5 rubber sheets and you will have an excellent bat for about 17 Euro. In fact, you can buy three of them for your 60 Euro, or just go ape and buy all the different rubbers to see which one you like (hint: they're all about the same... )

For that price of EUR60 you are pretty much looking at chinese rubbers which are fine but you can get yourself a good Swedish allround blade if you want to. I've got an N11 and it will certainly do the job however I do think that a nice blade is worth the extra if you can afford it. The N11 has a nice finish and comfortable handle and you could also consider the Galaxy 896 and W6 but apart from those, the chinese blades start to get a bit fast and can lack a bit of feel.

My personal favourite blade is the Donic Appelgren Allplay as its got a nice soft feel, but thats personal preference. There's plenty of other good options suchs as Donic Walder Allplay, Yasaka Extra and Stiga Allround Classic and Allround Evolution, the trick is not to get sucked into the OFF+++ category because you think you are an attacking player.

As far as rubbers, the ones suggested above are all good. When I stock our equipment cupboard with a bat like you describe you want, I often go for LKT XP Pro, LKT Rapid Soft or 729 FX Super Soft.

In summary about EUR30-40 on the blade and EUR 10-15 on rubbers will have you a great set up.

I'm now using a faster rubber however I've kept the same blade so if you get a good quality blade now you can always upgrade the rubbers later.

Note that the prices that Iskandar is quoting are when buying from China. The wait can be quite a long time depending when you order. Now might not be too bad but I've had to wait about 8 weeks before. If buying locally you will find the difference between a chinese blade and a Euro is about EUR13 which I think is worth it.

Let us know how you go.

Edit: Never heard of Imperial, I'd stay away.

Imperial is a German brand. The only contact I've had with them was a few sheets of Imperial Fire I obtained really cheap when ASTI went out of business. ASTI (made in the US!) was OEM'ing Fire for Imperial. This was around 2000.

1.5mm sponge... hmm.. Remember, the ball's bigger than it was in 1998. That's why a lot of rubbers (including "beginner" sheets) are ONLY available in 2.2mm. But then, if you want to play a close-to-the-table blocking game, maybe the thinner sponge would be appropriate..

Yes the Super Strike rubbers are made in Japan. I don't much about them, but if you're a beginner I'd suggest try them in 1.8mm or 2.0mm, no thinner.
