Initially I know there are many more things to consider when choosing a new blade & rubbers. But what part if any does the overall weight of your bat & rubbers come into consideration?
I was away from the game for about 30yrs (silly me). To start with I decided to get a heavy blade so I could really belt the ball, again (silly me), I had no control of my game & had trouble landing the ball on the table. At that time I was playing with a blade & setup of about 160gms a “Barn – Door “. :n:
Now I know my game I have gone full circle playing LP BH & spiny FH on Balsa & Balsa/Carbon with the starting weight of my blades being around 65gs to 68gs & my overall setup being between 135gs to 144gs. 8)
Lightweight is now very important to me it gives me much more control & is less repetitive stress for my wrist, my elbow & my shoulder, a much better overall result all round for me.
I’m interested in what the Forum think of this? :^) :^)

85g ish blade and total setup 175 to 190 just fine for me. Many modern rubbers are pretty heavy so without pimples it is difficult to get much lighter for my type of game. Balsa just not for me, it lacks guts away from the table where I like to drop off and trade. I have a spare setup that is 213g.......

I'd consider 160 to be pretty light for an inverted set up. Mine are in the 160s. Could handle perhaps 180 but much more feels heavy to me.

After preferring the heavier setups since i started TT, going against way better players than me nowadays make me value lighter setups on swings recovery. But don't think I'll ever transition to the lighter side unless needed in the near or distance future ( wrist injury is real on heavier setups with straight handles with me, maybe i just have fragile wrist)

I play close to the table using a fare bit of chop/blocking & soft hands on my LP BH so Balsa & now Balsa/Carbon is great for me. :*:   So that's how I arrived at light weight setups which in turn has had a beneficial flow on with wrist & elbow wellness. My close to the table style evolved from being a Fire Fighter for a lot of years & playing TT in areas with very little space behind the table. |(
I was just intrigued to know whether there are other fanatics out there like me who consider this feature? In talking to nearly all players' I know they just usually get a blade & grow into it......but not me. ;) 8)
