I found my old racquet a few days ago and had a chance to play with it. The 15 year old Mendo rubber itself looks and feels pretty good to the touch, I don't think it must have been used much before being put away. But I'm wondering if it's aged a lot just sitting in the case. How representative do you think it would be of newly purchased Mendo rubber?

I'd suspect that a 15 yr old rubber has perished a certain amount, especially a euro rubber, which isn't as treated as a chinese rubber. It might look ok, but it's probably beyond its best. You can pick up a perfectly good enough rubber for $10, or even less, so I wouldn't hesitate to replace it.

Even if they are looking fine and play well I guess their properties have changed over the years. I guess they have become quite soft and have lost some elasticity, especially the sponge, making them spinny but rather slow with a mushy feel.
