I've trained for a good 9-10 months a few years back.
I used to play with a bat provided by my trainer, the blade was a Stiga All Classic, no idea about the rubbers. I've also tried the Primorac, both blades felt good for me. In any event, I'm looking to get back into table tennis, so I'm looking for some advice on a new bat, mainly on rubbers for it. My playstyle was pretty classic, handshake, mainly offensive through FH, loops and the like, BH I primarily used for defense (though obviously I did play the occasional loop through there aswell). I don't really have a budget, but obviously I'm not looking to overspend on the first bat I get on my own. In terms of blade, I'm planning to go for the aforementioned ones - Primorac or All Classic. What do you guys think?

(And yes, LordCope, it was just a question of minutes to happen...)

Or just ask a mate at the club if there's some racket to use and to buy if it suits you.

If you've already used the All Round Classic, I'd just get one of them. They're not very expensive, and they're nicely made. It'll look and feel comfortable to you. Sure, there are hundreds of alternatives out there, and doubtless someone will pop up any second and tell you to buy a Chinese blade for $8 that is just as good, and yeah, maybe it is, but a Stiga All Round Classic will last you for years, cost you, what, $50? Just order one and be done with it.

For rubbers, just any modern, all round rubber will be fine. I used LKT Pro XP for a friend, recently, and that felt really nice. It's cheap, and nice to use. Or you could keep it in the family, and get a Stiga rubber - Neos Tacky, or even Chop and Drive will be well made, all-round, high-quality rubbers. In a year or so you can rethink, when you know how you're developing.

I know a lot of players who play very well with the stiga all around classic with inexpensive rubber as was suggested above. From my experience, the blade must fit the hand and feel comfortable in it, everything after that is dependent on your level of skill.

You can only really find the Primorac in FL, but the STIGA you can find in a lot of handle styles. Depends on what you want.

For the last few months I've been playing with a pair of Sanwei M8s and have gotten used to them. One is my emergency humid weather bat with 999T on both sides, the other has Haifu Whale and Yinhe 9000. Recently I took out my Stiga All-round Classic for comparison. Very similar. The M8 was just a hair faster, and the handle was a little smaller and smoother than that of the Stiga. I found myself preferring the M8, though that may just be because I have been using it all this while.

Even if you buy the Stiga you owe it to yourself to get a M8, for eight bucks (including shipping), why not?
