Hi folks,
4 month ago I switched from shakehand to chinese penholder.
My actual setup:
FH: Stiga Clippa 1.8mm
BH: Mark V GPS 1.8mm
on a Avalox C555 Ma Wenge

I'm getting better with this setup but in the last training sessions I recognized that my game gets more and more backhand driven…??? This is not what I intended and expected with my switch to penholder…The RPB works quite well for me and I can play topsins better with my backhand now than with my shake hand backhand.

But with my forehand I'm still struggling with a lack of control with the pips out. I thinks this has two reasons: my bad footwork and the tendency to play the ball too late. Systematical training would help a lot, I know, but this not so easy to get…

Now my questions:
- Would it help to switch on inverted rubber on forehand to get more control in my strokes?
- What are your rubber recommendations for the switch?
- Or should I try to get more routine with the pips out style?
What are your opinion?

Regards, Karl

One VERY simple experiment you could try would be to just turn the racket around and see what happens.

Or borrow someone elses racket and try it. I don't think anyone here could give you a better answer than what you can find out yourself, in any case.

This is a really VERY simple experiment. And is already done.
But not with success:
I don't like such soft rubbers on forehand. My error rate didn't decrease so rapid as I hoped.
If the ball came to my pimple out RPB the rally ends before I could check if the transition from BH to FH play is easier now...

Out of curiosity - before you switched to penhold, were you playing with pips already? If not, why did you switch to pips? Was it to play a certain style?

Another cheap experiment, but involving a lot more bother - get a sheet of cheap Chinese rubber and stick it on the forehand. Almost anything will do. Yinhe Mercury II, 9000, Batwings...

tried the Palio CJ 8000 Extreme Spin and enjoyed it very much. will stay on my forehand in the next time.
Much more forgiving than short pips if your footwork sucks :-)
