Hi All,

My first post here :). I am Rohit from Bangalore. Recently, I got a new TT blade and rubbers but I am reluctant to assemble it myself.
Reason being last time I did that, I almost butchered it :), So want to get it done properly this time.

I live in Bangalore, Can any one suggest any shops nearby Sarjapur/Bellandur area that assemble TT bats and how much they charge?

Thank You,
Rohit

Won't the shop where you bought the blade and rubber sheets do it for you?? I'm pretty sure Eacheng would, if you asked them.

It really isn't hard to do it yourself - the most difficult part would be finding the right glue to do it. Most table tennis suppliers will sell you the glue, but if you can find "rubber cement" (not always easy to find, I know) that will be OK. Avoid stronger glues - most contact cements (e.g. Dunlop, or the yellow UHU) are made to give very strong bonds, for instance, for formica counter tops, and will ruin your blade (you'll never get the rubber off again).

I doubt there's another poster from Bangalore here...

Hey Rohit.

I am in the same region as you mentioned in Bangalore.
Were you able to find the right shop / place for assembling the racket.

Thanks and Regards

There's a problem with TT equipment sellers in India that won't assemble rubber + blades that you buy with them for free. They charge something like 2-3USD per rubber which is from an Indian's point of view bloody stupid waste of money especially when you are spending like 50 - 100 USD per visit.

So guys like me end up helping out the fellow locals who don't know how to assemble or buy TT stuff and charge them like 1USD for our trouble :P So it is bloody minded stingy peasants that won't pay the extra 1 - 2 - 3 USD at the shop but are glad to take up my time and paying me almost the same s*** to get it done.

I do take the extra care that the shop guy won't like if the rubber is brittle or too soft or needs extra airing time before sticking and cutting. Also re-gluing in case the rubber doesn't stick properly, sealing the blade if it needs it. Sanding the handle or sharp edges. Since I'll do it mostly for colleagues or known persons I don't mind.

One thing club coaches will do for you in India is get you the rubbers + blade and assemble and give you a "ready-made" racket if you ask them nicely.

B'lore ( Bangalore or Bengaluru ) does have tons of TT players. But I don't think there are that many recognizable TT venues. Usually they will be hidden inside Marriage/Conference/Function Halls. Or very very expensive and exclusive facilities hidden from the local "poor" population, etc behind gated communities.

Hence the problem of TT not being too famous in India and not well promoted and not well managed by the TTFI.

Given that there are videos galore on YouTube and sharp box cutters or scissors are universally available I don't see why more people don't do it themselves, really. The only real obstacle, I think, is getting the proper glues. And water based glues can be a major pain to use. If you're worried about messing up expensive blades/rubbers try it on something cheap first.

That seems to be a common refrain no matter where you go. Substitute, say, "USA" for "India" and "USATT" for "TTFI".. In fact, you'll see some pretty unbelievably bitter invective about ITTF on this very forum. Table tennis isn't a major sport anywhere except China (and I think even there it's already eclipsed by soccer and perhaps even Badminton).

Haha ... its cricket in India

Even badminton is universally well recognized compared to TT.

The temptation, of course, is to blame those in charge... Happens all the time.
