I had a practice session yesterday, and had a try of someone's new bat... worst feel I've ever had for a proper competition bat... at least for me, others might like the feel. This bat was a Donic Black Devil with two Baracuda Max rubbers. The bat had a high-pitched pingy sound on contact. Although the blade is very fast, the bat did not feel that fast at all, I suspect the rubber are masking (or even working against) the spring in the blade. It's not the sort of thing I'd recommend to people, as fast balsa blades just don't seem to work with max Tensor-style rubbers, and this just confirmed it for me.
There wasn't anything wrong with the bat, and in fact I played quite well with it, but I just hated the feel!

What was the worst blade/rubber combination you've ever tried?

2 poor combi,

1st place,

Defence Alpha + Super Anti 2 mm, for chopping.

After month with Donic Anti, which I really like,

Wanna try how real anti would play for chopper.

Really bad mistake,

The sponge too slow and absorbent,

All my chop literally spun in place, and drop down behind my own side of table.

2nd place,

Defence Alpha + Pro XP 1.8 mm in its original sponge, on everything.

It just, this rubber too safe.

Less spinny than H3 2 mm, but less speed than Tackiness Chop 2 1.1 mm (no joke).

I just dont like to play with rubber that demand me to pull my punches, too fast ball out.

I prefer loop it as hard as possible with H3 2 mm, or chop it as hard as I can with Tackiness Chop 2. ;)

 Pretty much EVERY DHS blade with DHS rubbers on them

I didn't like how Donic rubbers work either. Sonex JP Gold, Bluefire M2, all way too fast and "pingy".

Funny how I love 729 blades and 729 rubbers the most. And also Yinhe blades and Yinhe rubbers are also excellent by my standards.

I loved Nittaku blade feel ( tried Barwell fleet ST handle) and also Xiom Hayabusa blades. But I aint made of money :D

Friends original TSP balsa 6.5 with 868 2.0 mm on both sides. Hard Chinese rubbers on fast balsa blade with no dwell = Completely uncontrollable.
Same blade then with Musa 1.8mm plays great, well as great as a fast balsa can!

Also LKT rapid soft 2.0mm on TSP balsa 4.5 was pretty awful (mushy) as was Keiler 1.8mm but both rubbers on hard carbon blades however play great.

Yes from my recent experience in matching rubbers to TSP balsa blades the thinner and more linear the better. In fact don't Re Impact recommend thin rubber on their balsa blades so rubber and blade work together

Anything Balsa + Anything Euro.
Tried someone's bat yesterday with this combo.

For me it just feels "gross". Don't know other ways to describe it.

Yes I would agree with that  The balsa is lively and dynamic, which often does not match well with a lively & dynamic rubbers. Thinner sponges usually help, as they're a lot less lively & bouncy.
