9 year old modern defender Jayden has been playing with a Rossi 07 JR blade. (This has a smaller head and handle.)

Since he is still pretty small, I don’t want an oversize adult chopper blade.

I want standard blade size, around 80-85 grams, All+ to Off – speed with soft to medium outer layers.

Synthetic layers OK only if the control and feel is maintained.

I think something similar to Butterfly Primorac would be about right.

* I should add that a solid handle is preferable since we will probably cut it down to fit his hand.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Dave

Heh heh heh...

The price does seem to have gone up slightly. Excellent blade, great touch. Unless you want a ST handle, though.

Does he prefer stiff or flexy? If he's ok with stiff, give Chen Weixing Jr. blade a try... it's around 70g. You could just take a good modern defensive blade like the JSH and trim it down too.

Chen Jr was his first blade. That blade face is very small for a chopper though.

I've seen people on this forum say that they have modified blades that they have thought are too heavy; if you are willing to go through the trouble, maybe you could get a Sword 309 Def blade and trim it

I think any blade in that speed range would work. Usually stiffer blades are preferred, so blades like Donic Power AR (off-), Joola Roskoph (off-), Tibhar status Power defence (ALL+), etc should all work fine. Most brands would have something in that range.

Just give him a Defplay or Koji with Red Curl on BH and be done with it.
Give it to him as is. No trimming the head.

It'll have lighter weight anyway because of the LP backhand.
The longer he uses it, the more it becomes HIS Excalibur instead of constantly looking for [Faster than ______, Slower than ________, Softer than ________ Harder than ________, Longer dwell time than...]

Agree with Hu, no need to trim. Either Defplay and Defplay Classic already so light compared to it peers. ;)

Problem is, the handle where too thin to trim.

I can also recommend these, good enough for both chopping and looping. ;)

Palio CAT

JOOLA K5

Galaxy 896 (best price! ;) )
Donic Waldner Senso V1

Hi everyone, h

just as a thought the good Dr (Dr Neubauer) does some all-round blades that are regular size, they have a low throw form them what is good for keeping chops low, the ones listed have a nice feel to them, the phenomenon is quite thick while the Kung Fu is really thin, the other two are around average thickness, there also light weight varying from 55-60 grams to 80-85 grams,

some to look at that are a regular size and all-round rating:

Jackpot
Kung Fu
Phenomenon
Bull Dog

this selection is also reasonably priced Bull dog is £44 and the rest are £53

I agree with giving him a senior blade but chose one with a thin handle and light weight. There are many blades for that from Spinlord, det Materialspezialist, Neubauer, Joola, Stiga, Donic etc. Most of them have givenmeasures for handle and blade size, weight and stiffness. But if you want anything cheaper a Donic Grubba All- or Stiga Allround Classic should work fine.

Give a look to the Nittaku Endless, a defensive blade for the young player.
There's also the Andro Nightmare with a small handle and standard size.
