I need to advise a playing partner on a new bat & rubbers to maximise his preferred playing style which is to mainly push or slow block with varying spin on both sides until he can engineer a loose ball for a forehand flat hit winner. Being tall with overlong swings at time control under pressure is a main priority along with low susceptibility to opponents spin.

At the moment he is using LKT rapid soft on both sides of a fast Chinese carbon blade which allows him to push or block reasonably well but is perhaps too fast in the heat of a match leading to inhibited strokes and the odd attempted forehand winner hitting the back wall.

Need some ideas for him, from just an def+to all+ wood Blade with slowish double inverted such as chop & drive to something more radical like medium or long pips or even anti-spin on the BH to neutralise opponents spin and maybe short pips on the FH to hit though spin. Spin manipulation and top spin looping is not a priority just the ability to consistently hit deep low pushes or controlled bocks until an opponent makes a mistake or an opening for a FH winner arises.

the best anti has now changed and is a little faster than before-its still super slow though

I normally play Seemiller grip with anti on the backside. I have used the same with shake grip. Learn all the things anti can do and it is deadly. Anti can push, block or hit backspin. Against loops, drop shots, angle blocks or chops all work.

In China, I played really good pip players. One thing I learned, in a pushing war against pips, slick anti wins. After one or two pushes they would lose track of the spin. With slick anti I did not care about the spin.

If you pick anti, it requires learning many new shots. Pullback blocks to drop a hard loop short, short angle blocks, hitting backspin, no matter how low the ball. You are using their spin. The more spin, the harder you can hit. Works good on backspin serves, just hit it. No need for a loop stroke, just hit it.

Many people try anti and quit too soon. It requires practice to learn what it can do. I like the slowest, slickest anti I can get. The anti on my serious bat is 6 years old. It just gets better and better.

Yeah, that was me. I got annoyed it was sooo different from LP, and annoyed at the fact that chops decrease backspin. Felt too slow...I kept pushing into the net. LPs seemed so much more intuitive to me, because I was used to them.

What anti are you playing with that it keeps getting "better?" Another thing I disliked was having to care for it, polishing it with cleaner all the time.
