I think you’ll get used to it, though I’ve never used a max thickness rubber. Generally 1.8 is enough for me. The thicker rubbers are great for topspin but I don’t like the spongy feel when chopping. Just a personal preference though.

It's the other way around, for me - Never used anything thinner than max... Mainly due to the fact, that in India, only MAX thickness is available... Right now, the only reason why I'm even considering another rubber, and in something other than max, is cause I have someone coming down from abroad, who'll carry it down with him.

Those who have no access to rubber cement may go look for photoglue, for example Collall. Or find some other latex-based glue which uses a VOC as solvent. It works great on the blade and once dried and when wbg is used on the rubber it has almost no effect on the sponge - and yes, it's a great solution for ox-glueing.

My experience if you did not like some rubber do not try to buy the same model again with different sponge thickness. Waste of time and money.

Rubber cement.. Once again, unheard of, in this part of the world

You should be able to find rubber cement. It's just a rubber/latex adhesive suspended in a solvent such as acetone, heptane, etc

Art and craft shops sell some form of it (eg elmers), usually thinner and more useful for tt purposes. In a pinch you can use tyre repair glue (for bicycles, car tyres - tip top, etc) but this stuff is usually too thick and you'd want to cut it with a solvent to make it more usable/spreadable. Sometimes called contact cement.
