Hello OOAK forum members,

We have just setup a UK based TT web shop and we would like to provide information to our customers that isn't just the normal spin, speed and control type statistics.

Whilst setting up the site we got thinking... What information could we provide that you as a buyer would think "it would be really useful if..."

So who better to ask than the forum users directly :)

Kind Regards,

TTEquipment.co.uk

Ask haggisv (forum owner who also runs a TT web shop) permission to do market research first?

I don't mind, I think it's a good question, one I've often thought about myself.
For rubbers, the two that are most easy to measure are mass and sponge hardness. Even these numbers are not fixed, because you'll find significant variations between batches, especially among the cheaper rubbers.

Almost all other characteristics are subjective and dependent very much on the player level, style, strokes and blade.

Agreed, including the most basic info such as the actual blade size! On a number of occasions I’ve had to waste time searching the ‘net for the size of a blade. It's not just an issue with the web shops, many of the manufacturer websites give very little product info.

For blades I'd like to see composition, weight, thickness and head. Handle size also important.

It would be interesting to see an image overlaying a reference blade. By this I mean show the silhouette of say a Stiga Allround Classic and then an overlayed image of the blade being compared. Maybe you could pick any 2 or 3 blades and overlay their images.

Also as I said on another thread, the ability to enter various parameters and the blades with this characteristics are displayed.

Darts corner has something called darts selecta which could be tailored to table tennis.

First thing first.... A public apology to Haggisv.....

I thought I had looked through the site terms and I didn't see anything that would suggest I shouldn't post such a question.
I also didn't realise that OOAK also had a shop and I wouldn't deliberately stand on anyone's toes or attempt to steal business. However, ignorance is not an excuse !!

So for this I apologise profusely.

I will also PM you Haggisv :)

So moving on to users suggestions if I may ? :)

We provide Uncut weight (as immediately from the package) and sponge hardness is supplied in "medium". Unfortunately on some items the product is not specific as degrees, so its not supplied. I will however make a note that sponges can range in hardness.
We do provide manufacturers specifications (Speed, spin) as we have no universal or standardised testing methods to say otherwise and so decided from the outset to stay away from subjective suggestions.

We provide the manufacturer details of outer ply, thickness and weight. We also check samples of the blades as they arrive and where they are out of the tolerance, we will then check the batch and update accordingly. We do not have a stat for "stiff/flex" and I would be interested on how people would determine this in a proven method. Again we do not want to provide subjective data.

actual blade size!

This is something that is being updated as we can measure this using a caliper set :) We have also added Handle size to the measurements.

As previously mentioned , we provide "some" composition information, weight, thickness, handle and head size. We also supply the position of the carbon layer and we hope that with our imagery (which is under constant update), you can really zoom in and see for yourself. A good example of this is the m202 product.
Overlay - An interesting idea and one I will put on the list to speak to our development team. I can only imagine the look I will get already
Darts Corner - I have looked at this and I like the idea. I think that will be another one to add to this list.

Thank you all for your suggestions and I hope that we can provide some of the information that you have looked for and need.

All the best.
