I am puzzled why this rubber is classed as defensive and all around, but not offensive.

Yes, I think most people would. You COULD use it for defense, but then again Joo chops with Tenergy.

(Interesting note - unlike most other Chinese rubbers, these are available in sponge thicknesses down to 1.0mm..)

Can you tell us how the large pored Super 729 FX plays in comparison with the normal Super 729 FX?

Compared to most modern rubbers, it's quite slow. It also comes with the option of 1mm sponge, which would only be used defensively.

Of course with the right blade and/or right technique, you can good speed, but relatively to most other rubbers it's quite slow, and it takes a lot more effort to get speed.

OMG I am doomed in this sport...
If 729 is slow, I am definitely doomed.
However my Donic Shildkrot pre-made is slower, much slower!
Surely there is a rubber for me out there, which is slower than 729 FX!

Although it is a dead slow rubber, Reactor Ckylin on the contrary may best fit the bill in your case.

It's faster than normal. I didn't like it in the short game - pushes kept getting popped up. Though maybe I should revisit it, since I've moved to the M8 blade (slower than what I had before).

The thing though it.. since it's so cheap, why not get a sheet and try it yourself? Might work for you. Get a sheet of the black sponge version while you're at it..

Er… really, it's telling you something if something that isn't really all that fast (729 Super FX) appears to be way too fast. It's because you're used to something that is way too slow.

1) Get a proper blade - Stiga Allround or similar, or a M8.
2) Do drills, practice with it, give it 2 months at least.
3) Make sure you're doing the right strokes. Forget the ball-brushing stuff, I wonder where that came from. Hit through the ball, but do give it lots of topspin. (Do you have a coach, and do you play in a proper club? Office pong is a different game.. Watch some videos. )

If all else fails... yeah, get a couple sheets of Ckylin...

Sure, it's mostly my technique.
I am just trying to optimize 10-30% or whatever the equipment contributes.
There is no club in my town.

I guess 729 FX was a big jump for me from pre-made.
But pre-mades can be different as well.
While I love this Donic racket, I absolutely hate Stiga Carbon one, also pre-made.

Defplay with 729 actually provide better control than that one.

I'll just continue with Donic for now... too much confusion.

The usual reason why a rubber is slow: the sponge underneath it has "open bubbles". Air will flow between the tiny bubbles in the sponge, absorbing energy in the process. When the rubber is made, the airflow (or amount of "bubble agent") is such that the bubbles will touch and the wall between them will easily break. The sponge used on many premades ("toy bats") is the extreme case, very light and very slow. "Competition grade premades" generally have faster sponge.

With less "bubble agent" there is more rubber material between the bubbles. Most bubbles are sealed, and will keep air when deformed. This conserves energy and gives a more springy, faster racket covering. More material also means more weight, so a fast sponge is often heavier than a slow one.

With larger bubbles, you can also have thicker walls and still retain bubbles closed. This way you can have a fast sponge which is softer and not so heavy. The challenge in that case is, AFAIK, to make the sponge homogenous.

It is pretty cheap, but I'm not sure if I could wait for 18 to 30 days for the rubber to arrive from China to Malaysia. Any longer and I would pop from all the anticipation of playing with it.

What was your previous blade you used with the 729 FX rubber? Popping up when pushing doesn't sound so ideal for me either as I like to engage in short game, but it could be the blade and not the rubber.
