my friends blade is quite damaged and im helping him repair and glue new rubbers on it, and i dont have any edgetape, and im just afraid that the rubber might separate from the blade (plus im using speed glue to glue so the bond isnt as good). is there any way of making ur own edge tape, using duct tape or something?

thkz :D :D

something that wont damage of course :)

I use dymo labeling tape, it's sticky and a bit more protective than table tennis edge tape.

But if you need tape to hold the rubber down to your blade, you're really missing out on performance in your racket. For rubber to work properly, particularly regarding its ability to create spin, it needs to be securely bonded to your racket - and with glue, not with tape.

hah.

Quite a few of the european pros use thick edgetape to hold down their rubber. Maze, Schlager, etc...

I wouldn't have thought it was within the rules to do that Silver, doesn't it say the rubber must be consistently adhered to the blade?

Suplazza I use black electrical tape as edge tape these days. I superglue the edge of the blade first as protection though. Works well and is a cheap alternative. I tape to the edge of the rubber over the sponge and it keeps the rubber edge protected too.

thkz.

@kagin: i'm using bty fair chack to glue down my rubber to my blade. the glue is just like normal glue, but the bond isnt AS strong as glue meant for glueing rubber onto the blade. So sometimes when im serving and the rubber hits my shirt, the rubber might grip my shirt and the edge of the rubber will separate from the blade, so in order to fix this i usually put edgetape on it so it holds onto the rubber.

thkz :D :D :D

will duct tape work, or would something else be a better idea?
do i have to superglue it?

Don't use duct tape!
It will leave a sticky mess after it has been on there a while.
Black electrician tape, same thing.
Seal the edge with several coats of poly, epoxy, Elmers glue, anything that drys hard.
There are many different commercial edge tapes and you can buy them just the right width for your combo of blade and rubber thickness.
If you use tape that just covers the sponge, it helps keep the rubber from pealing up if you brush the table.
Dymo tape would work and is very tuff. If the blade edge is sealed, it will pull off with out damaging the blade.
Any kind of tape is better than nothing. :D

If schlager is as much of a glue maniac as the rumors say, i could imagine his rubber being so domed that the center of the rubber is firmly glued on while the edges are screaming to curl into taquito form. Anyway i can't really argue against results, his racket must be working for him, but that doesn't necessarily make it optimum either.

You superglue the edges of blade. At impacts, this stuff is breaking or is very strongly? Do you think strongly than epoxy resins? Thank you!

I superglue the edges, actually I just superglue everything but the face of the blade, including the hanlde and the wings where the index finger goes, if you put enough layers it will look like normal again. Then sand it with sandpaper, start from rough to fine, in the end it becomes very shiny
