Hi Sebastian,

For someone wanting to try playing your style, is the Sauer Allround faster/slower on the backhand than say FireWall+. I noticed you said already that the FireWall+ is not so great for blocking fast loops. I currently have 6-7 blades, including Donic Cayman (very similar to FireWall+), Dr N Barricade Def (4-5 mm balsa, very slow), Nikkaku Septear (7 ply, stiff, All+/off-), various looping blades.

Would a Cayman/Firewall+ be more likely to work with Dr ABS anti, or still too much bounce to handle power loops, for a player new to this close-to-the-table style?

I am sorry that I replie that late!!!

The Sauer Allround is totally different and softer in playing.
For a player new in this style I would advise you to test this with the fastest blade you have. If it fits it is perfect and you are very dangerous, if not you can go down.

Oh, some players changed a lot but I think that I did not change a lot.
Basically the system keeps really the same with the same strategies like the sidely played ball deep into the forehand with a pips block into the backhand. This keeps giving trouble to the opponent.

PS: and please do not speak about that old haircut If you see it realistic it was no haircut^^

How many people would we need, paying say A$150 each for a weekend training workshop in Melbourne, to get you here Sabastian? There would also be hall costs, but we need a guide to think about this seriously. Obviously the number would be different in Australia, compared to other places, since you come here for a holiday also.

Hi Sebastian!

I've been practicing a lot, including some of the tips you've given me, which have helped a lot. Although I feel much more comfortable playing close to the table now and controlling the ball with the pimples, I'm still bothered with medium paced pushes to the pimple.

I find the better players will regularly push with little spin, wide to my BH. Since there is little spin on the ball, these are hard to hit as the reversal is minimal, and trying to topspin them back with a brushing motion also does not feel like a high percentage shot, especially with OX.

I regularly run around and attack these with my FH, but this gets me so far out of position, that a good blocker will easily take advantage off.

Is the only solution to twiddle the bat and attack with the inverted, or do you have some other tips that might help?

Well, in my opinion there's at least one better player with the same style, it's Fabian Akerstrom (Sweden), No 241 in ITTF ranking.



But anyway, I like players whose style is not standardized.

After frictionless got banned, Akerstrom supposedly became more of a chopper. Sauer still blocks at the table. By the way, I was hoping to see Akerstrom play on Sunday when dttl.de showed TTC Frickenhausen. Saw him sitting on the bench, but he didn't play any matches.

@shoebox9: the course.
There are some possibilitys we can think of.

For a weekend course I think it should be around 14 players participating for around 130 Euro.
It would be nice if somebody would arrange everyhing for that in Australia if we would do this.
Another thing is that it would be nice if I could rest somewhere for the time I am there (here I really would not need luxus). or you could show me a little bit in Australia.
Some other things would be possible, too, depending on what you want. It would also be possible to make two courses to make more than this one course in the time I would be in Australia or to make some single lessons.
Here I have no idea on how many players would be interested. The course would be open for every system of playing.

@haggisv: It is of course easier when I would see your style and technical opportunitys. These balls will keep staying hard for you when you have problems after running and playing with your forehand. The techniques which are easy to play and effective depend on high percentage on your bat, too.
All in all you have to try to take these balls always as early as you can after the ar on your side (half-volley). So you can play with high control and let your opponent short time to handle without going risc.
Speedplay was very eight here with advising to take the balls short after their bounce on your side.
His tip to lay them short or half-long is also very good and effective. It is important that you fell well with mixing up these short balls and balls you play long(fast) directly after they bounced off.

@francis:you are right. Akerström is now playing much better than me. He is professional andf getting better and better every day.
I am now playing more hobby and will not getting better anymore but I like table-tennis^^.
Fabian Akerströ is now playing a lot attacking with his forehand . It sometimes looks not so elegant but he is unbelievable effective with this hard attacking.

Thank you Sebastian, I will work on that. Putting the ball short can be dangerous if I don't pick and spin and pace right, coz if it's only a little too high, good players will put it away. I think I simply need to mix it up more, coz I tend to forget and keep playing the return that works, and they get used to it...

Dear Haggis, the balls do not have to become perfect short every time. This would be too hard to control. It is also okay when you sometimes or even often play balls which are half-long, so that the other one does not know if he can attack or not. This will also disturb the playing rhythm of your opponent.

Dear Sebastian,

I just saw your video, and a website saying Rent-A-Sauer (yours?) with a picture. I think you should be the person in the background, the one with his head the same level as the frame of the door. I just wanted to find out what your height is and wingspan is (fully extended arms and fingers, tip of left fingers to tip of right fingers). I'm not a tall guy, so seeing someone like you play table tennis makes me think, maybe you should try to play basketball too... Maybe Dirk Nowitzki can use a good guard to play beside him... Who is the smallest guy whom you've seen play block or chop defensive styles, and would you say that a smaller guy has a bigger disadvantage if he plays a defensive style, compared to an offensive style?
