I'm very sad to have to pass on the news that Miquel/quelis has died, he was 45 years old.

I'd not seen him for a while, but when I saw him last he was full of fight, and very grateful for the gift from the group. I wasn't close to him, I just enjoyed bumping in to him and always tried to watch him play

I remember him as a very fine and aggressive lp player, who always had time for a chat and to help others - I'm sadder than I can say...

That is very sad news indeed!

I also only knew him through the forum. I Loved his enthusiasm, and if there's one thing he taught me through our chats, it's how precious life is, and how we should enjoy it and not worry about the little things. It's a sad day indeed to lose one of our friends! ;(

Indeed. Very sad to hear that from the road to recovery, the condition turned worse.

This is very sad news indeed. Like many of you, I actually thought he was on the mend. He was always full of positivity. My deepest condolences to his family.

Wow, that's awful. I wonder if there's a way we could take up a small collection through online donations to make in his name to a charity.

I'm in shock. I really can't believe it. Last I read his posts he was still so eager to getting better and so full of energy.

RIP mate. I hope you've returned to Shem now and reside beside the energies of the universe.

Oh my god. I have tears rolling down my face. I PM'd with Miquel a lot and lately he had stopped and not been on the forum and I wondered about how he was doing. I feel very sad indeed. He sent me a picture of his wife and 2 boys with him. They were a fine looking family. He was doing so well and getting better. I cannot believe this thread. When I saw it I expected it was to explain why he hadn't been around, not that he was no longer here.

RIP Miquel, my Barcelonian friend!

I had bought a book of Spanish translations to be able to talk to Miquel in some of his own language as a mark of respect to him. I had done so a couple of times and he had corrected some of what I had said, but also appluaded how close I got to being right.

As my final mark of respect for him I have attempted to wish him farewell in his own language. I'm sure its not 100% correct, but I hope its close:

mi triste illorar la muerte atrivedo fiel el amigo. mi orgulloso agradecido conacer Miquel! mi el duelo el muerto el amigo.

My understanding of the translation goes like this:

Im sad to weep the death of a daring and faithful friend. I'm proud and thankful to have known Miquel. I mourn my dead friend.

Miquel, or others here might know him as Quelis... Lived life to the fullest and was a wonderful person to talk to or even be around with. I was fortunate to share PM's with him, and thought that he had a very positive outlook in life and was very unselfish. He was a very loving Husband and great Father.

We Love you Quelis and miss you so much....
My Dearest friend,
Words alone can not express my emotions on your untimely death. The reality is, that you will be sorely missed by all that have known you and have loved you.
I hope too your family will find peace and to find comfort now that your pain is over dear friend.

May the Lord bless you and you wonderful family

Chris

PS. The Butterfy Christophe Legout that you sent me is a treasure and I will make sure your love of life and also to the sport of table tennis will live on!

I have found a website where you can post your condolences to Miquel's family if you wish. I won't post the link here for his family's privacy, but PM me if you would like the details.

He was a truly nice guy and there aren't many.
He was a proud Catalan who once gently chided me for using the Spanish form of his name - 'Miguel' instead of 'Miquel', and always made me feel welcome by switching to Spanish whenever I came up - a big gesture for many here!
You can tell a lot about someone by how they handle playing in teams, and Miquel always played in the same team, with the same group of friends for years. I think he could have handled playing in a higher division but he stayed with his friends.
He was always smiling, he'd walk into a room and you felt better just by seeing him. Last time i saw him he was as thin as a stick after the treatment, but still smiling
