Haven't been on for ages. No, make that aeons. I actually use the 888 in 2.2mm on the BH, changed to 2.0mm for a few weeks now. But I'm finding it too slow and too "friendly" to play against.
I'll probably look for a SP at some point. But for those of you playing with under 2.0mm sponge, either you have Popeye strength or you have a titanium blade. I swear every punch block is a full tricep extension for me and my 5-ply.

started using it in 2.0mm on a Rutis (walnut top ply, glassfibre/carbon, soft inner ply...Kiri? Ayous?) and my level improved another notch. Because its a rather fast pimple, it does need some power behind it to support it adequately. Now I can see why Melarimsa calls it the best pimple ever.

Oh holy Jesus! I just got two new sheets (my 7th sheet) and I'm appaulled but the QC of this rubber. One sheet had pips noticeably more spaced apart and the sponge was also much much softer.

Now I'm looking into Japanese sheets, they may be pricey, but at least I know what I'm getting.

what i dislike about original 888 is springiness of sponge - it makes it harder to control blocks against fast attacks while near table, even in 1,0 thickness. today i will finally try new combo, 888 topsheet on 1,0 sponge taken from old dr. neubauer LP. i can tell from bouncing ball that feeling is much dead now. we'll see it on he table

so i played yesterday with it. it turned out that dr. neubauer 1,0 mm sponge creates still fast combo with 888 topsheet, although less springy. this sponge is harder than original 888 sponge. i somehow missed this softer feel, so i would like to try 888 with softer dead type sponge, slow enough to create lower gear

so i've paired 888 topsheet together with 35 degrees plain chinese sponge (cheapest) from eacheng, hoping it should be dead type. and so it is. it is still not slow combo, yet it is significantly slower than original 888 sponged version. i like this new combo very much - it's easy controlable, very good for blocking, versatile for attacking (able to generate enough spin because of soft sponge) yet still behaves like true MP when killing spin. I've used it on 729 Bomb blade. I can recommend this combo rubber

you just have to ask for desired hardness in a form of comment during checkout, since hardness cannot be selected before putting to shopping basket

i want to try this sponge as well with kokutaku 110 topsheet. since eacheng don't sell this topsheet, i will have to peel the sponge off from sandwich rubber...
