Thomas Bennborn Sweden
Style: shakehander, SP/LP chopper
Blade: TSP 2.5 Balsa Glasfiber
FH: Butterfly Raystorm 2.3 mm (black)
BH: TSP Curl P1R ox (red)

Just spotted this on YouFace...

Bradley Evans (Barrow I) vs. Thomas Bennborn (BATTS I)

British League Premier Division

Word on the grapevine is that he plays with a short/long pimple combination.
Possibly Butterfly Raystorm and Long Feint.

Quite a few mistakes at the start, but he is more consistent the longer the match goes on...

Yeah it looked woeful to begin with, but he prevailed in the end. The other guy just couldn't keep his loop consistent enough with the varying spin I think. Thanks for posting Moggy.

Reminds me of a guy I played in my last tournament...short pips forehand long pips backhand, spin was totally infective...he thoroughly destroyed me like 11-2, 11-2, 11-2...consistent and spin oblivious.

I recognize his name but I can't really say from where. I'm quite sure that he has played in a higher league here in Sweden, perhaps in our second or third division. His style wasn't that impressive to me but he reads the game well and he was quite consistent when he got into the game, also he didn't take any chances or try to put too much into a chop. That's often the difference between a better player and a lesser player.

It's always hard to judge the level of players based on videos and I always seem to make the wrong judgement  . Especially when it comes to defenders which are more dependent on a good opponent to be able to show their skills. Yeah I really don't get why he's playing with short pimples but it's probably because he gets more control with it and since he only seems to attack really high balls, it might suit him better.

Correction to Thomas' set up:

Bat is TSP 2.5 Balsa Glasfiber.

Rubbers are Butterfly Raystorm black 2.3 mm sponge short pips
and TSP Curl P1R red ox - long pips.

Today, Fabian Åkerström beat Thomas Bennborn in three straight games (11-5, 11-5, 11-8) in the international competition Ängby International in Sweden (results can be found here: http://resultat.ondata.se/ai2010/). It would be nice to se a video from hat match, just to see what the game looked like. Later Fabian lost to Jin Takuya who won the whole competition.

He looks very steady, I wouldn't think 50% of his serves very legal? either from the hand, or backwards or no height

Thanks for posting the videos Barrow.

It is only when you see players in a league situation where perhaps the pressure is not quite so great (as in international matches) that you get a real feel of their play, warts and all ;)
