Wow, I dunno if it's just the camera angle making it look different, but it seemed like he could keep his chops consistently very low for SP. Nice.

he has got to keep them low, flarestorm is to fast for anything else.
I think he is using about the last rubber I would pick for chopping,he would even be better with a thin inverted, more spin than flarestorm and still has attack capabilities

He's using a ton of wrist movement, rather than chopping with his whole arm- making his returns less consistant.

The advantages of short pips for chopping over thin inverted are:

1) It's easier to handle ultra high spin loops (a smart opponent will give these to an inverted chopper). With inverted, your bat speed must at least match the ball's topspin rotation speed- otherwise your return is high.

2) Attacking/killing pushes is easier (less effected by the backspin). Imagine this. You do an awesome chop and the ball flys straight through the air and drops down into the table with a ton of backspin. Your opponent's eyes go wide with fear due to the ball's flightpath, and he pushes the ball highish over the net (the ball now has all your backspin returned to you). You run in and slap his push (with your short pips) straight past him.

If playing long pips you can twiddle as you run in, but you need more skill to deal with all of your own backspin using your inverted rubber.

I think he can play better with Dr.Neubauer Pistol. I used to play this style and using Pistol rubber. It can provide good block as well as consistent chopping.

He's an old Thai-Chinese guys who HATES LP.
He thinks that :
LP can't attack - but he see me and other LPs attack a lot. He rarely use SP to attack or loop.
LP is for super old guys who can't move - all LPers at club move very well, except me.
I give up trying to convince him 6 months ago - can't change what old dude think.

He chops well against kids and players around his level(up to 2000) but you know better players have faster loop and spinnier ...... that when chopping with SP becomes his liable.

Heh, I thought the same thing.

His chops do look fairly consistent, but I think the way he's chopping the ball will really limit the amount of spin he'll be able to produce. But hey, at least he's getting them on the table (which is more than I can say for my own short pips chopping right now...)

Oh yes. I know how hard it is. After recording this, I tried with his paddle......balls flew over his head, nowhere near the table.

I know it's hard, but I'm think I'm going to keep working at it. I'm not going to be able to play any really strong loopers until I finish up school, so I figure I might as well learn to chop with short pips in the meantime. Plus, if I do end up switching back, chopping with long pips again will seem easy.
