joo se hyuk is not playing with the joo se hyuk blade..he's playing with a ''joo se hyuk handle'' on it blade..probably it's his old blade, diode...I think: butterfly company produced the joo se hyuk blade ( with thick center ply) and joo himself played with that mixture of plies and gave an ok, production and selling started..and after he decided to play with his old blade diode (or something else, the central ply of this blade is thin and middle plies are thick)...

I'd like to experience playing with that blade with or without joo se hyuk handle on it.. the words passing by are: the feeling of it must be close to ''butterfly joo se hyuk blade''...

From what I heard butterfly simply renamed the Diode to JSH.

I ordered a ''butterfly diode'' blade (nearly 140 euro) from http://www.spinfactory.de
new production, looks like joo se hyuk blade with different thickness of plies, maybe some plies are different too...
in spinfactory.de there are information and some visuals(diodes plies look like the plies of this blade http://forums.oneofakindtrading.com.au/ ... 3&start=15 ) .. they say the blade is even harder than joo se hyuk blade...

You can find the Diode blade in the "Butterfly Japan" section.
Diode was still produced on demand by Butterfly Japan, I think Spinfactory orders them there.

Deva Sarjan, did you play with the Diode? How was it? And how was it in comparison with the Joo?

it appears that the diode is just a joo se hyuk blade with out the face printing and handle tag, with slightly thicker outer and secondary plies and a thinner core.

I have a Diode and several Joo blades... Diode has more vibration and is a bit slower. Joo blades feel nicer in my opinion and have a larger sweet spot. Joo flared handle is also an improvement over Diode (a bit too thin for my taste). Not much difference between the two, but imho Joo is an improvement over Diode, as Diode was designed in the 38mm ball era.

I thought the whole problem with the diode was they tended to warp?

with Diode ball feeling is sharper...more clear than Joo..in contact moment you feel higher frequencies more than Joo..
and Diode is just a little bit more flexible... and may be a bit slower than Joo(not sure)...
Diode has five equally thick plies, two different kinds of wood...

Mine is over 25 years old and not warped yet... Diode was a common and relatively cheap blade that Butterfly made mostly for amateurs, then made famous by Joo... It was sold for a retail price of about $35 when their entire Tamca line blades were selling for $125 each. Most pro choppers were using Tamca Allure at that time.
Butterfly then introduced Defence II and Retriever for the attacking defender. The fact is Diode was never considered a viable choice for pros, although Joo proved them wrong. :D
The Joo Se Hyuk blade is really a better version of Diode, imho...

Ok, thx for the info! :) I was just curious how it performed differently in comparison with the Joo blade. It appears the diffrences are small...
