Anyone over 21 is banned from representing another national team for the rest of their lives, so she had to switch now.

The way I understand it, until April 2018 she can't compete in the Olympics, ITTF world championship, ITTF world team championship and I think this also includes the ITTF World Cup.

I also think she is banned from the major Euro events like the European Championship and Euro Top 12 as the ETTU applies the ITTF eligibility regulations.

She can play in leagues and regular ITTF pro tour events, but can't be on the Austrian National Team.

but elligable for the Olympics sooner as they have a different criteria.

I think the letter is rude, I don't believe she has done too much since her 2nd in the jnrs, but I don't know who has done more so selection should be based on rankings and potential and not on material
so what was her German ranking in under 21 and open womens

There are currently FIVE German women ranked above Amelie. So if she were to be included on a national team it would most probably be in a developmental role. Maybe she could have a role as a specialist against another team judged to be weak against her style. I don't have much problem with the coaches decisions here. If she were even the third best player it would be unacceptable and likely not be done. Also she can still play pro tour on pure merit if I understand correctly.

Interestingly the five players above Amy include two short pip forehand hitters and a short pip backhand chopper(Ivancan).

When the coaches say 'no future' with anti are they suggesting a total change in style or long pips?

Hey, maybe by 2018 we'll be rid of the despicable and counter-productive friction 'rule' and Amy can really shine for Austria.

I believe Protour entries are done on an individual basis. I guess it just means that she will have little/no support from the German associations and have to pay her own way.

I can understand why she chose Austria, but there are many countries that will allow her to fast-track to representing that nation.

You can't really say anything about the pip hitters and choppers, since they are quite conventional players, given the typical women's game at the top. Solja's game is a highly disruptive game which is not proven to work at the very top. And I'm sure that they would typically want results over style development. And it would cost less and be easier to train a conventional style player.

That's true, but those five also have all the resources of the German National Team behind them. Amy was dropped just three months after coming in second in the world junior championship and everything she has accomplished since then she's done on her own. Who knows where she'd be if she had some support?

As long as all the national associations act like the German one did, they should never have to worry about coming up against a top disruptive player. Perhaps many of them act like this already, but only the German one was willing to say it publicly?

I don't think this fast tracking is allowed anymore ,Its either 5, 8 years or lifetime bans, but definetly a different criteria for Olympics which I think is 3 years

I wish her well, but I think anti is a mistake - she has much more options with LP spin variation/attack etc she was never one to just stick her bat in the way, she manipulated every block, but with anti, at high level???? I am a huge fan of her lp days...

I expect she probably would have got the same treatment if she played with LPs though... perhaps not if they were short pips.

It's correct that we have a world championship training course on Monday.

However, as I already said on Saturday in Holsterhausen (and also various times before), speaking for the coaches' group, with the anti on your backhand we see no future prospects and therefore no possibility toward a world championship. The results in the Bundesliga, as well as with national and international competitions, with the exception of the single competition of the World Junior Championships, say it all and (unfortunately) have only strengthened our opinion.

For the training course, therefore, I don't see you with this material. Also for the international tournaments which we have suggested to you in the email sent at 18:37, I don't see you if you play with anti.

I think the coaches want her to play with long pips.
They would use completely different phrasing if they didn't think her basic style could work at this level.

sad - wasn't it her father who insisted on the anti?? Never understood the shift to anti. She never relied on reversal, more on manipulation, what does the anti give???

Nice channel! One thing I notices watching the SF of Toulouse is that her trainer coaches a lot during the games. I think that's (1) unfair [I never see the Chinese coach saying something] and (2) not according to the rules. One time she's pushed to use a backhand serve and she misses it. Nice coaching!

If my trainer would coach me like that, I would throw my paddle to his head. Then again, I don't have a trainer... Lucky guy! :D
