The purpose of this blog is to make people aware of the troubles I am currently facing and or successes I have achieved in table tennis.
Therefore I would very much appreciate everyone's opinions and tips on how I can improve my game.

Problem 1: While serving, I am never sure whether to have a high throw to get more speed and spin, or to have the minimum height to catch my opponent off guard, is there situational advantages for each of these techniques? or is it just personal preference?

Problem 2: When using short pips, it is advised to shorten your stroke, and make it more aggressive. In the case of short spinney pips, should this rule be changed due to the increased possibility of spin? or is the fundamental pip structure that calls for this playing style? (Solved)

Problem 3: When looping, I often like to add side spin, and I have found this very effective when playing people who play far from the table. However in all professional competition videos I have seen, none of the players add side spin. Is there a reason for this that I am not aware of? (Solved)

Problem 4: When do you think it is time to change your rubbers? do you do it because of obvious signs of wear and tear? or due to degrading in the level of tackiness? (Solved)

Problem 5: I often get black stains on the neck of my blade when I have sweaty palms, is there any way to prevent this? (Solved)

Problem 6:Do you find OX Lp or LP with sponge easier to use? If sponge which thickness?

Problem 7:I have recently got and 896 galaxy blade, should I seal it? or will this effect the flex.

Feel free to post on this blog, any criticism is taken kindly :)

Thankyou for your assistance with my troubles,

Regards Velonstrails.

It depends on the serve you want to do really. I suggest you initially practice the serves with the toss that works best for that particular serve, then later practice it with the other toss.

Usually because its more direct, faster, more precise. Also because its easier to hit the ball cleanly. Watch Ma Lin. He sidespins a fair bit, especially doing inside out loops from the backhand side.

both. There's a rule of thumb floating around that was number of times played per week = times changed per year. I usually just change when there's a noticeable performance loss/damage. Change more frequently around tournament time.

A loop with sidespin (or a Hookshot) :), is just a loop layed on it's side. The spin is now used to curve the ball sideways. Now there is no spin to bring the ball back down to the table, just gravity. There is much room for error. The horizontal trajectory is much flatter with a hook loop.
A low ball can be looped much faster with all topspin and still make it back down to the table than a hook loop. :)

Hi, Velonstrials I saw your rackets collections, one guy from Malaysia (he used to be in Malaysian National team) told me to "limit my choice of weapons to one or two". I have like ten blades, all kinds brands (C pen-Yasaka, J pen-butterfly, stiga carbo, banda-2, butterfly-2, tibhar, sunflex old racket). since then I am be doing pretty good with just one racket-rubber combination my sunflex.

My advice is concentrate on developing forehand and backhand strokes make those strokes more efficient and your footwork smooth.

good advice

With serving just practice many variations so it becomes natural
