The dominance of the Asian players over the years has occurred primarily because they take the ball early, just after the bounce. European players on the other hand take the ball at ‘peak’ or after the top of the bounce. The difference in usable reaction time gives Asian players a real advantage by preventing opponents from coordinating and organizing their best strategies.

Seems like a pretty bold statement, but assuming this is true, why do you think they are able to take the ball earlier? Is it something to do with chinese vs japanese style rubber?

I think that currently the Chinese players are just faster and better. Consequently they are able to take the ball earlier and this ability has its obvious advantages. It has nothing to do with the rubber they use. For example Gatien and Erik Lindh successfully took the ball ridiculous early using Japanese rubber - they were just very fast and very good.

wanting to to win in a rally vs wanting to win off a third ball attack generally dictates where you stand....If you mentally say....im gonna kill the ball ones twice maybe even three times in a row and my opponent isn't going to do anything about it....you will probably stand closer to the table...

but if you think....oh ya i can beat my opponent in a loop loop battle, bring it on!

you are probably going to back off the table to counter loop more and therefore let your opponent attack more...

Being able to do both is a big advantage.

I assume they can take the ball earlier because they are trained to from early on. I do believe the statement as a general rule-but there are always exceptions.
