Virtually all standard blade available on the market seem to have a fairly standard length handle for shakehand, being around 100mm. Do you think there would be much benefit if some manufacturer offered longer handle than that?

I've never found a problem with a standard handle length (although I frequently find handles to thin) but I've heard other say a longer handle is more comfortable.

So do think a longer handle would be preferable?

i like the current length....but aside from custom makers, where the heck did the conic handle go...they are BEAUTIFUL!!!

stiga still makes them but they are very few and far between

I find the handles on some of the modern blades uncomfortably short - they feel like they will fly out of my hand. My blade is over 20 years old and discontinued. The handle is very long and very comfortable (for me at least). The only shortcoming is that it can brush against my wrist when doing reverse-pendulum serves.

I don't have a problem with the handle length, the thickness of the majority of current Asian built blades is the real problem, at least 8 out of ten blades are ruined because of that. They haven't err grasped 8) the fact that even average sized Europeans have much larger hands. If blade makers were more serious about getting people the right fit there would be more options than flare or straight, at least two different thicknesses would be good

Xiom handles are all still mostly about 100-102mm in length I think, but in circumference they have the "heftiest" handles I've seen and much more comfortable in my opinion. I don't like the narrow handles on some blades I've tried. The Gambler flared handles are the worst! I believe the more the handle is flared the shorter it feels.

I like the gentle flare on my Xiom blade but an alternative to a "too short" handle is to go with a straight handle. Because there's no flare you don't have the wide hump in your palm giving that "too short" feeling.

All my BBC handles are 115mm per my request. Makes a big difference when the corner of the blade's handle isn't digging into your palm, and is instead completely outside your grip.

This all happened due to people's stupid fascination with weight, so manufacturers started reducing weight by cutting handles short and hollowing them out, which only makes the blades more head heavy and heavier feeling in general. If you look at pros' equipment, they generally either use older blades with solid handles or longer handles ones. For example, Ma Long's TB ALC(when he played with it), the handle is a good 10mm longer than the normal ones you see(usually 100mm). Zhang Jike uses an old Viscaria. Ma Lin's cpen handle is almost as long as most SH ones! Check out this old, well-known thread if you don't believe me, and take some measurements if needed:

10 cm is ok.. and finding most of the handles too thin ,as straight I prefer matsushita and nittaku shake def handles, Def 2 fine too..also I find Joo Se Hyuk flareds handle a bit thin..
my mind: '' why don't companies produce blades with a little bit thicker handles, people can modifie them when they need, instead of using grip tapes?''

It's easier to put grip tape on than to shave off wood, plus manufacturers' logos often get in the way.

sometimes grip tape covers the manufacturer logo too.. players needs is the main.. I don't prefer to use grip tape..
remembering master and legend, two different flared sizes of stiga and imagining other companies produce two different flared and straight sizes..

I wouldn't want a longer handle. On the odd occasion as it is I have struck the table with the part that protrudes by a few mm from my hand on the table as I've gone for a low shot from over the table. It totally destroys your stroke. Fortunately it only happens when the angle of my hand is perfectly imperfect

Point is: manufacturer logo is often inside a plastic "lens" inlay. If shaving wood is difficult, getting a nice finishing on that plastic is even more so. Best solution probably to remove the inlay and use some filler instead.

That inlay does not pose a problem with grip tape.
