1 out of 27, don't exaggerate. and about 50% of the doubles.

My team wouldn't have had a 3rd man if I hadn't been there. There are social reasons why the teams weren't formed differently. Basically, I'm liked as a person and some better players are not. Between the 3 of us, only one is strong enough to play in the league we play in right now.

Yes going down a grade will definitely be a positive change.

My team got unexpectedly moved up a grade before the start of the season due to changes at the national TT association. By then, I was already on the team and it was too late to change. Besides that, there are social reasons why the teams aren't and won't be formed differently. Basically, I'm liked as a person and some better players are not.

We will be demoted after the season ends, and yes going down a grade is definitely a positive, for me and one of my teammates both. For me especially.
All good, It sounds like you are doing all positive things so keep it up

Just a quick update:

Now down a grade, playing in the league below the one I was in last season (when I managed to win one match the entire season), and also in a new team, the first matchup was today. We beat the other team by a very large marign. I won all 3 of my matches, two of which comfortably. This was supposed to be one of the strongest teams. Quite a difference... There is enough to learn from these matches too, so I see no reason for anyone to torture themselves by playing in a league that's too difficult for them. I'm playing with pretty bog standard inverted rubber on both sides now, no more short pip backhand. I can't say I miss it, but I doubt that change is what makes the difference - it's mostly just the level of players.

"Nothing to lose. Let go and you could play better"

This does not work in my experience.

Here is my 2 cents -

Understand your A game and see how you can match it to their weakness.

Dont bother too much on heavy spin serves - they will most likely return it and you will have a wierd return to deal with. Keep it simple but vary placement. Surprise with long serve and remember to move back as soon as you serve long.

Identify key placement points. Better players know where you are going to hit that loop and thats something they actively look to learn.. thats why the loops lose effect in the 2nd game!

Lastly - Do NOT go all out attack if thats not your best game.
Attacking everything and letting go is how I lose to lesser players. Better players will give me less chance. The key is to actively look for balls to attack while avoiding playing no-result balls. Do something with that push. Instead of putting it safely in the middle, push it deep to where they dont expect it and counterhit the slow opening loop. Instead of passive blocking, play a short jab. Put more into your shots - every shot. But dont go slam bang.

One more thing - let go of the halo!
When you are on the table, the opponent is not a "better" player. He is just another player you are trying to tactically outplay who has strengths and weaknesses.

Buying equipment is like getting into a relationship. One night stands are great but you get the most out of it when you work at it for a long time.
