Would you join a tournament where you have no chance of placing in the top 4?

I would like to improve further and would like to join a tournament where the chance of being eliminated early is so high. Will this hurt me more mentally or would help improve my game and mental strength? What's your take guys? or should I just wait for the next tournament wherein I have the chance of playing more competitive?

i enter in tournaments where i'm not going to make the top 4 ALL THE TIME.

experience against better opposition that you wouldn't play against generally is a very important thing for your progress.

That was fast reply SFHS.

My dilemna really is being eliminated early especially its a knock out system. I'm just hoping that the draw would be favorable. Participants are between 32 to 50 thus single elimination will be used.

Is it an all-in tournament where you get just one entry? Our tournaments have different classes, so you can enter several on the day and get at least one match in each. If its a chance of getting just one match, not much point. If you can get 2 or 3 at least, then its worth it.

Yes. This is an open tournament and all the hustlers are already prepping for position to be seeded. There are two events, singles and team. I'm just hoping that the team event is a group round robin format.

I fully agree with 'SuperHappyFunSlider'.
i find it extremely important to play and compete with better players than yourself
to gain experience and to improve, and the more you do that the better it is for you.
don't expect to find yourself among "the top what ever...", set your goal for these kind of tournaments to be a part of your advanced training and learning from better players in a competative event and environment.

+1. so far ive been mostly lucky to play players better than me, including people ranked in the top 10 in the country.. loosing to them makes you realise how much harder you need to work to be closer to them.

Thanks guys. I have this fear that I will be mentally affected that after a game ( the first and only game ), I would be one of those in the bleachers for the rest of the tournament. I would rather lose 3 games and no win than play only a game and be eliminated. Thats the problem with single elimination. There is little exposure for the developing players.

Anyway, I decided to go and play :D .
