Hi, I am playing with Dr Neubauer Scalpel recreationally, and I was wondering, after couple of years from the ban of the frictionless, what anti spin or long pips rubber is now considered to be closest in feel with Dr Neubauer Scalpel. The most important shot to me is passive block of top spin. With some legal pips that I have tried, I noticed that they react to spin to much, so when I passively block top spin, the ball, if it doesn't goes long , tends to jump high and it is ready to be killed. I need something that will do block and good reversal, and be similar to Scalpel. Is there such thing now? If there is which blade will be appropriate to combine with it?

This is what old (me) Dr.N players are struggling with...
You have to try different set-ups yourself...

But if you want very passive set ups try
Lion Claw and Spinlord Zeitgeist 0x red....
Good reversal and very slow...

As this is the anti-spin section, I guess advice about anti's would be in place... Dr.Neubauer ABS is the slowest best reversing anti there is, if you disregard Joola Timeless which costs twice as much. Using the ABS in 1.2 mm red on a really slow, but not soft, blade like Donier Defense, Lion Shield, Tibhar COS-3, or (a little faster) Joola Toni Hold Whitespot should come more or less close to the old frictionless LP idea; probably closer than any LP now available (and legal).

Well, I was in the dilemma where to post this question, long pips or anti spin section, since it does not matter to me whether it is lp or anti as long as it can come close to Scalpel/similar frictionless rubbers in passively blocking top spin. So basically, anti spin with very slow blade will be closer to the old frictionless LP idea, then todays long pips.
So, what will work better, ABS or Nightmare, or to try both ( ) ? (@Geddk: you were right)

You are right, and what about blade, I have Tibhar Defense + extremely slow 5 ply blade with 2 inner plies of balsa, will it work good with antis compare to Tibhar COS-3?

It is also important to be slow, is it slower/faster then ABS?

Nightmare is faster. ABS gets destroyed if you try to test it on different blades. It can also pull splinters out of your blade when you remove it if you aren't very careful.

My whole set-up costs less than a sheet of Butterfly Dignics

Ok, so ABS have fragile sponge, I will try to find someone who already plays with these antis and to try their equipment in order to save my blades and money

The COS-3 is a bit slower than the Defense Plus and has great reversal with LP, so I expect it will do fine with slick anti as well. The Defense Plus is only a plus for a defender who also attacks, as it is faster in sudden attacks than the COS-3. It has slightly less control compared to the COS-3 as well.

Well, when I was buying my Tibhar Defense+, I asked the seller which is slower, and he told me that Tibhar Defense+ is a bit slower than COS-3, maybe he just wanted to sell me slightly more expensive blade . But I also attack with my forehand when opponent gives me high ball , so maybe it is good at the end...

COS-3 is a very nice and cheap blade.. Highly recommended..
I have tried Dr.N ABS and I really don't like it at all.
When you block the angle has to be very precise,
not very forgiving rubber, but pretty effective anyway ...

I still think you also should try an LP...
COS-3 and Zeitgeist...
I think I will try that myself

So ABS, and todays antispins reacts to spin more then the old frictionless? Ok, I will try Zeitgeist also, but if you are going to be quicker, please share your impressions here .

I just google for the Tibhar CO-S-3 and I found that there are two pictures of this blade, is there any difference, and which is the "new" or "real" model?

They are both the real deal..
But top picture blade is a bit smaller in head-size
so it is head-size that is different.

I have the blade in bottom and
it is a very nice blade!
I don't know why Tibhar did that...

Yes, try Zeitgeist and COS3...
I will try too...
