Yes I agree... it would be great to hear how everything has changed when you return. Are you beating players you could not beat before? Does it seem like they're playing in slow-motion?

I also wonder how you're doing back home and what has changed (or not). 'Memoirs' refer to experiences in the past, so now you really can get started ;-)

this is true...
I got home on friday

a little jet lagged, but have trained 4 hours since....

there is approx 5 people in NA who can train my chopping according to my coach, so training will be very....very....selective.

Training blocking and looping I can do with many people, but the backbone of my game relies on very specific people which can be restrictive....

i will be filming my practices with Sun later on this week and hopefully can do some commenting.

That would be greatly appreciated! I wonder what Sun says about your improvements after your trip :)

Two Palio CK531A ox's against each other, really looking forward to that!

Or will you be playing DF again? Does Sun still use Palio ox?

it honestly depends, in canada double fish is better because I play WAY more close to the table as i can generally take control right off the serve against most opponents, 1615 wins here.....

the level i would like to reach however requires a fast chopping game, which palio is better for...

Leatherback, you ought to go over there and teach this guy a lesson.

Quote:
North American table tennis champ Pierre-Luc Hinse plans to knock around a few balls with locals tonight at SpinBin, Ottawa’s first and only ping pong bar.

Hinse, who became a YouTube sensation for his an amazing return shot against Xavier Therien during the Canadian National Team Challenge 2011 in Ottawa, is headed to the 2012 Olympics in London this summer. During the men’s final of the North America Olympic Games table tennis qualifying tournament in Cary, N.C., April 21, Hinse beat the United States’ Timothy Wang to advance to the Olympics.

The bar is located under The Great Canadian Cabin in the By-Ward Market and Hinse will make an appearance at 7 p.m. He is hoping participants will help him with donations to cover training expenses before he heads to the Games in July.

Hinse....actually one of the most friendly players I have played with....super nice, not eliteist at all, and a very entertaining lobbing spin variation defensive double inverted game.....I would go hit with him except ottawa is 5 hours away by car hahaha!, but that kinda sucks that he needs donations to cover training costs.....

HINSE come here ill train you for free!

Yes i stuck with the H3 neo, I play with a provincial version given to me by the coach, I bought about 10 of them before I left china including a blue sponge.....

but to be honest, there is not that much difference in quality at all, its just consistency in between sheets, and as long as you have hardness labeling....your ok!

hardness is all personal preferance...there is no hardness that suits a certain style, however, the softer it is the easier it is to control....

but if you are planning on switching from T64, for the first month at least of playing you will HATE H3....alot....

if someone gives you a spinny loop to your forehand and you place it back on the table low and deep with alot of top spin like chen weixing or gionis, T64 is elastic enough for your loop to have alot of spin on it simply by controlling your body arm and then hand. H3 returns NONE of your opponents spin and has to come entirely from your own power.

The ONLY reasons I chose to play H3 is because a) I bottom out the tenergy series, b) i prefer to attack backspin as opposed to topspin, and i play close to the table when every I can.

If you consider yourself a defender that chops and loops away from the table more the 80% of the time....dont change, unless u want something more fast attack oriented, then go with T05 or T25

Why is a fantastic thread about training methods in China becoming (yet another) thread about equipment?
Surely one thing we can learn from China is that hard work and bulk of training is the best way of improving yourself as a player, not changing your setup?
Fantastic thread by the way. The multiball exercises for pimples are very useful for me and I have tried to incorporate them into my training. Keep up the good work please!

Leatherback, just to learn from your experience:
I will live in China probably for a year and will have some friendly matches with Chinese teams for sure. However, the Chinese players I met yet speak English quite awkwardly, so I did not yet fully get what they told me. Could you explain the Chinese league system? Do they have something like USATT below the world class? I just want to know which level I am competing with.

there is amateur leagues very similar to what USATT where people practice amongst themselves as well as play tournaments for their own pleasure etc etc, but above that, there is the professional system. There is city programs that are associated with each of their provinces....this is where children first learn to play as they live at the facilities. Then they move up to the provincial teams and then if they are lucky, are well connected and their families are in government or have lots of money then they make it to the national teams. In all three of these teams there is several levels as well.
