APPARENTLY DR NEUBAUER USED ANTI AT THE WVC

According to a post on Noppentest, Dr. Neubauer was using red ABS on the backhand and short pips on the forehand. The blade "looked like" Gladiator. Unfortunately "The Doc" lost a tough five-setter to Yang Shoujie of China, who is playing today in the semi-finals.

US OPEN INTERNET BLACKOUT?

The U.S. Open starts in less than 12 hours. Absolutely no idea if there will be a live stream or not. Maybe the new USATT web page will tell us. Hmmmm. You'd barely even know the U.S. Open is happening this weekend, let alone know whether or not there is a web stream!

Maybe the official USATT twitter feed will tell us. Nope. No updates since June 22.

Saive won his division, and so did Appelgren (just) - 3:2 against Lu Qiwei.

Thanks for the update. Looks like Lieck lost in the semis. Dieter Lippelt won in the 70-74 and Josef Rakosnik won in the 75-79. I think both those guys are defenders. I hope some video starts appearing from this tournament.

There is a lot of video on this site. They missed a lot of what I'm interested in, but they do have Saive's and Appelgren's matches. A lot of doubles. A few women's matches too.

Hmmm... Strange, I had a check at this site when WVC started, because if anyone would stream from this competition it would be PingisTV, but I found no info about this on their site. An not anywhere else. They must have decided very late that they would film the last days, and I am glad they did.

I will talk my friend to put his films on his Youtube channel, he filmed the first group match between Appelgren and Li Q. I hope he filmedmsome other matches too, not only his own (against Saive and more)... I'll Let you know.

Good find MNNB

I started a new thread here: viewtopic.php?f=37&t=20053&p=220992#p220992
I found semi and final with Saive and Appelgren at that site. Too bad not the whole match between Appelgren and Lu is available (or perhaps they are still working on it....)

Magnificent stream quality for the US Open webcast. Why can't they all do that?

Whos the guy playing Peter Li right now?

I'll answer my own question: Keuiv Dae Young

Peter Li just got beaten 3-1 by this guy! He's quite good.

4-1, no? And yes, he seems to be decent. But Li either played poorly, or he's just not that good...(I've not seem him before).

Yes yes, 4-1. Sorry about that.

I think that Peter was just a bit too lax, and gave up a bit prematurely.

US OPEN: BAD MATCH CHOICES FOR LIVE STREAM

Gotta say I'm not really excited about all the doubles they're showing on the U.S. Open web stream. Seems like almost 50% of the matches being shown are doubles. :puke:

I would much rather see some of the age events, rated events, hardbat or sandpaper and/or some of the rated divisions, especially this year. With the Olympics coming next month, the international field is sparse.

The highlights seem to be that Coach McAfee got to the quarterfinals of the Men's O60, losing to finalist Xin Peng. Long pip player Richard Hicks won the O65 and O70. Jay Turberville got to the final of the O40 hardbat.

U.S. OPEN UPDATE

It's a holiday over here today, so I thought I'd crack open a beer and watch the terrific live stream of the U.S. Open on my internet-ready big screen TV. The only problem was all they showed was this endless awards ceremony for a bunch of kids playing in a concurrent ITTF junior event. Very boring. Next up? More doubles!!! Grrrrrrr. Why didn't they show the hardbat final instead?

If you tune in right now, you can see the following...

Mixed Doubles Final (More doubles!!! Who cares???)
Both Men's Singles Semifinals
Women's Singles Final
Men's Singles Final

A BIZARRE OCCURANCE

I finally got fed up with sponge and have been using SP ox on the forehand and LP ox on the backhand for the past few weeks. The results have been great and I think I'll stick with it. Now I tell everyone I play "hardbat" and people seem more accepting of a hardbatter than a dreaded LP player (although I'm still an LP player).

Last week I was playing a pretty good double-inverted player for the first time and the guy got frustrated and quit after two games. He said with a hardbat I have too big of an advantage over inverted rubbers. I had to laugh. The guy got mad and left.

Perhaps you've mentioned that earlier, but what sp do you use in ox? And what lp? I know people gets frustrated and tired of playing against a setup like that. One of my friends used double Long A 1,0 mm for a while and even players far beyond his level lost sets (sometimes matches) to him because of thet. But he is a hitter that can't read spin very well. And he lost many pips when playing that aggressive with lp (even though it was Long A). He now uses Yasaka Pryde 30 on FH and Long A 1,0 on a Stiga Clipper.

I have been using 729 Dr. Evil (black) on the forehand, Dr. Neubauer Desperado on the backhand on a Nittaku Shake Defense. I'm mainly a push/blocker type and will attack with the forehand. I've also been working on twiddling to attack with the backhand. Although I had been happy with Dr. Evil, I did a robot test comparing Dr. Evil to Dr. Neubauer Terminator and Terminator was significantly better in most categories, so I've switched to that now on the forehand. Will see how that works out but it looks promising.
