Post subject: glue sheet on Gorilla?

I just bought a "New Gorilla with dampening sponge" from a forum member cheaply.
The sponge has a glue sheet on it. The instructions say put water based glue on the glue sheet and glue to blade.
My question is: when I need to remove the rubber, do I need to preserve this glue sheet? Would the rubber behave differently if the glue sheet is removed or torn?
