Hi,

I've juste received my Spinlord Blitzschlag.

This new pimple from Spinlord is very similar (in term of structure) to the Dornenglanz.
The main difference is pimple alignment, "horizontal on Dornenglanz", "vertical on blitzschlag".
Pimples on Blitzschlag seems to be softer.
(First test wednesday 19 oct; ;) )

So far I have played the BLITZSCHLAG (BS) twice on a BBC 7-9-7 (BHC). I am very convinced about the performance of this new rubber:

+ slow thus allowing to "lead" the ball in short chop rallys over the table. The result is a superb control with precise placement and furthermore the possibility to accelate these rallys by aggressive pushing. Another feature of the reduced speed is the ease of generating short stop balls.
+ good braking of incoming topspins. Due to the increased friction of the BS it is necessary to choose the right angle to avoid ascending balls. However even for me this was easily adapted. In a game with an opponent working on me with heavy and fast topspins the BS gave me a better shield than other LP.
+ very flat arc and rapid sinking of the ball. In combination with the reduced speed this generates a uncomfortable situation for mid-distance attackers
+ superb control

? generation of backspin was contradictorily by other users (=> http://www.pimp-my-blade.de/viewtopic.p ... 4&start=20); one said only sufficient, another one said more than DG. I could not test this so far.

- no warped curving or fluttering of the ball; the disruptive effect resides solely on the flat arc, the rapid sinking and the reduced speed

Conclusion: at least another interesting and promising LP.
My personal view: my new LP for the season.

Can you compare it to other LPs (other than Dornenglanz)? KTL Stranger f.e ?

- I did not play the Stranger.

- The BS is close to the DG with the differences: + more control; - less obviously (!) weird balls

- with the DP the balls cannot be placed that short than with the BS

- my experience with the D.TecS has faded; so I do not want to compare

I believe Mark Koehler has gone where others have gone before, just to make his new LP more controllable. Friendship 755 or Palio play quite similar at the table. But this is not in any way meant to be depreciative, as those two rubbers are excellent for close to the table defense.

Palio isn't bad for OX-chopping either! And I'm even learning to attack with it

Nice to read you again, Kees. How's your health? Are you playing again?

In my opinion, there is a huge difference between Dornenglanz and Palio and 755.

The remark, like this thread, was about Blitzschlag... I agree there is less similarity with Dornenglanz. I intended to convey the impression that the greater controllability of Blitzschlag makes it rather similar to conventional effective LPs. Taking that thought a bit further I'd say that the Spinlord LPs as a series are an attempt to unite disruption with control which in other LPs seem mutually exclusive; and although the attempt so far has been succesful to a certain degree - not as much as is suggested in the ads, though - it seems to me that this last addition, Blitzschlag, rather makes the point that disruption and control are hard to really unite after all.

Kees, I couldn't agree more. The holy grail is the most disruptive pip with awesome control. Doesn't exist and I doubt it ever will. I originally went the control route, meteor 8512, so easy to play on pretty much any blade but sadly too easy for the opponent to hit through. I will now forever side with the disruptive pips, and attempt as best I can to control them. Dtecs and Tachi still remains the dream ticket for me.

If I wanted control I'd go back to a slow inverted. I think we're missing the point of playing on the dark side when our pips are too 'nice' and more about us getting it back than making it harder for our opponents to get it back.
