I watched some of the Spanish Open games this last week on TV, the guy who took second place used a reverse tomahawk serve to win the last point in the semis. The more I think about it, the more I think the reverse tomahawk is equivalent to Danny Seemiller's right-to-left windshield wiper serve (with the Seemiller grip), the difference, of course, being that it's done with the forehand side of the blade. I tried doing the reverse tomahawk myself the last playing session - boy, it's going to take a LOT of work before I'll even be able to connect with the ball (the regular tomahawk is easy by comparison, I've seen people use it ever since I started playing). I'm thinking perhaps doing the Seemiller windshield wiper serve (and immediately changing back to the regular grip) might be easier, though you do forego the surprise factor. Switching grips would be easier if you held your usual backhand side to the Seemiller grip forehand side.

Iskander, Danny rarely if ever used either a regular or reverse tomahawk serve. Danny's normal serve that he uses probably 75% of the time is a rather normal-looking backhand serve that he is super-smooth with and gives both side-under and side-top either short or long. I've known Danny since he first became US #1 back in the mid-70's.

You're probably thinking of his brother Ricky. He did use both regular and reverse tomahawk serves. They were his claim to fame. I remember him demonstrating them for me one time and I dumped four straight into the bottom of the net. Heaviest serves I've ever tried to return! Even some of the world's best players at the time had trouble with them. Danny and Ricky made it to the quarters of one World's in doubles and Danny told me that a lot of the credit for getting that far went to Ricky because of his serves.

I know Haruna Fukuoka frequently does that type of serve. With a bit of squinting that could be her. Haven't seen her in world-level tournaments for a couple of years, though.
