Someone suggested it might be nice to be able to have images in signatures.

Images allow you to have more fun with your signature apart from simply listing what kind of paddle you happen to be using, and it might just brighten the place up as little.

Of course we would need to limit the size of the picture, so that it does not affect loading time significantly, and it does not stand out too much as to make threads harder to read. Note that for mobile devices, where loading time and viewing is more critical, if you use Tapatalk it does not display signatures be default, so it does not affect it.

I would suggest a height no more than 80 pixels (same height as your avatar), and width at least a few hundred pixels.

Do you like the idea?

I'm happy either way. If it was available, I'd probably use it.

I'm ok with it but as a member of various forums, would need to be careful not to let the signatures get out of hand. Sometimes its hard to actually find the posts among the signatures. Take this post for example and the signature, though simple is about he same size as the post itself. Add an image and the signature is the dominating feature of the post. I think its important for the posts themselves to be the prominent part of a post and a signature is purely a signature.

I participate in other forums where this is allowed and, in general, I think it detracts from content.

I voted no because sigs with images can be very distracting and can make it hard to find posts. I think the avatar is enough customizability.

They could be ok if the size was kept very small, but then, what's the point of it?

Another idea is to only have signatures activate when the post is of certain length. I think that could be of benefit now. Then you don't have a two line post with a three line signature, and it's easier to find the longer, more explanatory posts.

I think it would be an either/or type of thing. Either you could have multiple lines of text listing your equipment, such as you have, or you could be more creative and have an image signature. I don't think there would be any less of a point to it than everyone listing what ping pong paddle he or she uses.

In all honesty, the lack of images can make the forum appear somewhat barren at times.

I would not mind some images but frankly in some forums they can be so tacky or crude that it destroys the whole forum for me. It is also bad if inappropriate images are present for a workforce or our younger viewers. So instead of opening additional moderating nightmare I would favor no.

Not for me - avatars add enough colour.

I concur with dunc. Avatars are sufficient already.

Going from the voting pattern it looks like we don't have an image problem. :)

Looks like a pretty steady flow of old sticklers that want to keep it old-fashioned :-).

Oh I see how you exaggerate things. Can't imagine what your description would be of what's in the mirror :P

As for the images... as long as we make sure Rodderz's is appropriately censored...it sounds ok. ;)
