What is the slowest OX medium pips and slowest medium pip sponge? Would the slowness of the pips tend to decrease the medium pip effect? Would sponge enhance the effect or diminish it?

Most MP rubbers are pretty fast. Thinner sponge produces more MP effect, most notably sink. Slow down the rubber with a slow blade.

Well..........a post that is replied to late is better than never replied to!

I recently played with 2 MPs (both ox ) and one tall SP (Friendship 799)

The MPs were Dawei 388 C-1 and Friendship 563. They both seemed to have the same speed. (played on the same blade)

But I didn't try any sponge on these MPs.

BUT!!!....I put an Air Zero super slow sponge (.5mm) under the Friendship 799 and it slowed things down a bit. I really like it. Great control and still enough pop to hit with.

The Air Zero is available from Cole Ely. The thicker ones slow the ball down more. All the Air Zero's are very light.

Thanks, the AZ sponge had completely slipped my Old Duffer mind.

Good to know about the Air Zero. Just the ticket I'm looking for, as I posted earlier about how much I like the 563 topsheet but find it too fast with other sponges.

I ordered mine with 1.5 Air 30 from Cole. Will probably be too fast. :punch: But that's okay. 563 is an awesome attacking pip, esp. in 1.5.

As an update, the 1.5 Air 30 is a great combo for both defense and offense. I'm chopping with successfully, finally, after trying numerous 563 sponges and thicknesses. Thanks to Cole for carrying all of these difficult to find things.

If you do not want to buy topsheet and sponge separately, I would suggest to take a look at the Nittaku Pimplemini in 1.0. That was about the slowest mp I came across and I have tested most mp out there back in my pips days. The Pimplemini has soft pips (very thin like a shrinked lp) combined with a soft sponge; good for chopping, great control.
