Do you know how the general reactions to the changes were? Playingwise I mean, positive or negative?

Initially negative for sure because the sheets were so different. Didn't read much about it later, I'll see if I can find something.

there was little feedback as how they differed playwise, people were generally pissed that the elder version hat broader pimples. apparantly a batch was botched in the production, so the new/current ones should resemble the original. dont know whether that is true though.

this is the thread..the dust up occurs in the last pages of the thread, so u might want to start from the end, there also is a picture that compares both versions:

Yeah, the initial reaction is that you get pissed because it's different, even if it's a good change. I haven't checked the pimple sive that closely, will be sure to do that tonight.

I have tried HF ox with Defplay, it feels a good pip that is easy to play, not far away from DG. Roll shot don't feel as comfortable as with DG. HF dampens hard shot well and many pushes have nice low trajectory. Attacking seems more comfortable with DG. Sideswipe works really well with HF. Chopping nothing special.

I also tried CropCircles ox. Hmm, it's too grippy. It's playable but I don't see much advantages in ox grippiness, just more mistakes. Chopping wend well as spin and trajectory is considered.

I tried once again Dtecs ox, and it was fast - best suited to off the bounce fast pushblocking. Best suited to passive style plays in lower level. Bit one sided to play and you can't really work the ball much.

Well, I propably will play the team series in couple of weeks with DG, as I am best used to it, but HF seems to be viable alternative.

At the moment I would rank the ox pips on Defplay this way, but more testing is needed... :P

1. DG = 9 (disturbing, best attack, good roll shots with nice top spin, good control)
2. HF = 8+ (good dampening, easy, missing disturbance)
3. Talon = 8- (Quite nice to play, better control than Dtecs)
4. Dtecs = 7+ (might be best for passive play in slower paced games)
5. CC = 6,5 (Too grippy)

I've been playing really well with Hellfire the last months but the variation between sheets is driving me crazy, the slower one plays really well for me but the faster one is not working at all. It's really making me hesitant ordering a new sheet when it seems like a lottery. It's really sad because it's working really well for me, I'm missing a lot less and it makes me more confident and calm knowing that I can hold my defense until an opportunity to strike with my FH pops up. I haven't decided if I'm going to try another sheet, go back to Dornenglanz or look into another possible replacement (any suggestions?).

I've been playing with Hellfire ox on my backhand now for about 6 months. Actually, this post could belong else where as well, as I am using Sauer & Tröger Zeus blade and 1.5 mm Secret Flow Chop on the forehand for the entire 6 months. I had tried lots of other rackets and long pips, but could not obviously afford to make an exhaustive study on my budget. My thought was why not follow these guys who actually play the style to which I aspire and who have put a lot of effort into optimizing long pips play.

I also have the same exact rubber on one of their Firestarter rackets so I could make a comparison.

For some background, I am an average player (around 1500) and I play 2 or 3 times a week in a club with players of comparable strength.

The result of this 6 month experience is that I feel that the Zeus set up is the best with which I have ever played. The ball feeling is excellent and I would stay with this set up even if it didn't improve my results because I feels so comfortable. However, my friends all tell me that I am playing the best that they have ever seen, winning more games from them and even taking a few from higher rated players. I had previously chopped on my backhand, but not my forehand. But with Secret Flow 1.5 mm, I am learning to chop with good effect.

For the record, I am not related to these guys in any way. This is an unsolicited, whole hearted endorsement of their equipment.

-Al

When playing a chopping game modern defence, would Hellfire or Easy P suit the style better?

imo, hellfire is more a blocking then a chopping rubber...

I'm still trying to get my head around what category of long pimples Hellfire goes into.

For example I know P1-R is a grippy long pimple good for creating your own spin.

What category is Hellfire in? And what other LPs fall in the same category as hellfire?

i would say hf is a blocking rubber...i tried it in ox only...it is really slow and have strong spin reversal on chop blocking...i think it is too slow for chopping from a far...

similar are dornenglantz, dragon talon, cropcircles (from faster to slower...)
