I've recently met Carbonman, and I'd rank him a definite step above me. It's all because he has better equipment of course. 8)

Here's a picture... Matt Herrington (PPP on the forums) in there too, with NL and some other TTD forum members from a few weeks ago at Lily Yip's TTC.

Matt is 2-3 levels above NL and Der_Echte but a half level to a level below Bogeyhunter.

so_devo is definitely a notch or two above me and I even play pips decently for my level.I would put him somewhere between 2050-2250, though a lot would depend on how well you return his serves.

I'm USATT 1950-2050 - Have been consistently in that band for over a year now so I am a solid USATT 2000 player. Der_Echte and I are pretty much in the same range depending on opposition - I do better vs. topspin and he does better vs. pips.

Nice work Reb :) Can you put some pointers on? E.g. Nextlevel [2000 USATT]

I am ~1750 USATT, so a solid level below NextLevel and Der_Echte(who beat me like a drum just this Monday, while looking and moving like a zombie).

Hi reb, good job with this. Any chance you could perhaps put the estimated rc ratings next to each name with the equivalent us ratings in bracket or vice versa. Maybe mark the ones with a star that are actual rankings. That way we can let you know if it position has changed if we improve. Could maybe put a 50 or 100 point minimum on the change so you aren't updating for a few points here or there.

Haha, I certainly WAS a Korean ZOMBIE. I had food poisoning or something non-virus real bad was in couch for 18 hrs straight couldn't even get up to go to loo it was BAD, then I got up and met pgpg, since he risked his marriage to meet me at teh club I HAD to show up for such a friend. He was risking his life and I waz laying my ass on a couch - no good Der_Echte. :D I think a ZOMBIW would have moved 3x faster that evening. I waz zoned out of it, any other day I would NOT have even entertained the though of going to the club.

I play vs several pip styles maybe 2 full levels better than my official rating of upper 1800s, which is likely under-rated, but it is what it is. After the 1700s, each 100 points is a level. Another way to look at it is that if your opponent needs 2 points to keep even, then that is a level, then each additional point needed is another level. That is the Korean estimation and it works pretty good.

The official ratings can also be a LOT misleading, even though they are the best estimation we got. Some players simply do not play enough variety in tourneys to get the whole picture and many are improving or such.

Right, so if I someone regularly manages 6 point against an opponent, but rarely more, then they are 5 levels below the opponent?

Prolly 4 levels. The scenario you describe is a 5 point average winning margin, so two for first and one each for the remaining three points would indicate a four level difference. That is assuming the player isn't toying around and totally serious.

Ranking by who beats who can run into problems with a beats b b beats c c beats a situations. And the us ratings are total false precision. If you go to a tournament and beat an 1800, and after the event his rating is down to 1700, what rating did you beat?

A class system like tennis or countries with tt leaguea would be better. Here is my suggestion for the ooak classes using usatt or equivalent.

2400 + becomes super crazy good
2200 - 2399 becomes crazy good
2000 - 2199 becomes really good
1800 - 1999 becomes good
1600 - 1799 becomes pretty good
1400 - 1599 becomes not bad
1200 - 1399 becomes not that bad
1000 - 1199 becomes bad
0 - 999 becomes beginner

Would you rather take forum advice from someone who is crazy good, or just not that bad?

Nah, I'm assuming you haven't improved at all, cos you got married and hardly played since :P

Show me a rating in a system and verify its compare to the systems in use and we can adjust you ;)

Cometo think of it, Imight have been a bit generous, I might have to drop you down the list now I'm thinking about it   :punch:
