I'm wondering if anyone here has registered for the Open tournament next Sunday at Dandenong? If you hven't entered and still want to, you have until tomorrow night. The entry form is on TTV's events site. I suggest shooting an email to the email address given on the form if you want to enter, with a copy of your form attached.

I've entered the event, which is the first time I have. I'd normally play the Vets event, instead of this, but the event for Vets has been deferred from the Monday 28 to maybe April 16th (or maybe will be cancelled - reason unknown).

Be great to meet any forum members who may get along to the tournament anyway.

I'll be practising at the club tomorrow with a teammate. It's our first visit there.

If I can't hand in my entry and payment in person tomorrow, I'll email it and pay on Sunday week.

Thanks mate, I'm gonna need it!

I actually haven't played a tourney since almost a year ago in Vets. Haven't played a Seniors tournament since I was a kid cos I just play pennant normally and Vets if I feel I can stand up to the rigors of a tourney. As I said earlier, I'm really only entering cos I was primed up to play the Dandy Vets on March 28 and they deferred/cancelled it. I seriously don't see it running now as not enough notice is given as to whether its on or not.

I've just entered 2 events in this tournament, Div 2 and 3. I figure they're the only ones I've got much chance of getting anywhere in, and I shouldn't wear myself out too much for pennant the next night (which is the last round and may be crucial to us making the final). I'm also planning to enter the Ballarat Vets in June and meet up with Cobalt there. Haggisv you should come over to Ballarat for that Vets and we can have a little forum party there

Hi Hangdog,
I saw that you were training yesterday @ Croydon, are you training every day?

I've been playing a couple of extra days as a fill-in on Wednesdays and Thursdays for the last 2-3 weeks just to squeeze in a bit more before most of the pennant seasons finish. It hasn't really been beneficial in terms of skill improvement or recovery!

Normally I attend group coaching on Saturdays. Today I trained because my teammate couldn't make it yesterday, and he wanted some practice for tomorrow night's pennant match.

I have to say that the Dandenong TTA playing area is very well put together.

That's great, keep training... You will improve without noticing. Like I said before, more than happy to to have a hit with you anytime

Yep, court facilities are excellent. However, there is no water fountain and no showers and no management/commitee that is willing to address these or other issues. Its an unfortunate situation, and one that no-one is really able to do anything about.

Jeanc, you're not playing Dandy Open then?

Hi Reb,
Not this time, I have already plans with my 15 months twins that day. I'll probably play next year. Best of luck for you both

Thanks to Reb for the warm welcome to Dandenong! I got another pasting in Div. 4 and 5, followed by Reb "beating me like the L.A.P.D." (in the words of Chris Rock) in our social games, but I had a good time and kept on learning! I ended up playing 3 matches and umpiring twice as many.

Were any of the games close?

Not the ones between me and Reb! :P He did ask after you, BTW…

I was slaughtered by my unrated Div. 5 opponent 3-0, and lost in the 5th game after trailing my Div. 4 opponent 0-2.

But it's all good – just need to set myself some new specific training goals and think about how to focus better in match situations. I've been playing way too much the last few weeks, so my downtime at home has been spent more on recovering from aches and pains than on robot workouts or service training.

I umpired a match where the winner confessed that the guy he beat was a better player – and the loser did have a better loop, but the winner blocked his way to a win in 5 games and showed more adaptability, I thought.

My doubles teammate also did well in Div. 4 singles through careful service returns (thus nullifying any "free service points" his Round 1 and 2 opponents would normally have relied on, since both had a reasonable degree of spin and deception in their serves). He knocked off a player who was a solid level higher in Round 2 of Div. 4, but ran up against my Div. 5 guy in Round 3 of Div. 4.
