Well, 8 weeks in China, played every day.
Watched ping pong on TV every day. Yea, ping pong. Say table tennis there and you usually get a blank stare.
After 7 weeks, got an invitation to Ma's training camp one night.
Ma,s coach saw me hitting with Xu and was interested in the Seemiller style. Wanted me to hit with Ma Long. Hit with him for a bit and a match started.
I had him on the ropes for a while, then he started coming back. Finally had him 10 to 8, my serve in the 7th game.
I had saved a special serve just for this, my high toss, anti, fake chop.
Up goes the toss and,,,,whats that?,,,,,no, no not now,,,,turn it off! Turn it off! Arrrgggggg. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. #$%^(*^%@#%^^%#$%. Too late. A motorbike alarm out my window. :headbang: Wide awake now. :@ Just 3 more seconds and I would have beat Ma Long. ;(
Video? You know they don't work in dreams. :)

Let me get this straight.
Is the whole China trip a dream, or just the ping pang qiu part with Ma Long?
:D

Hookshot, your serve went out of bounds and ma long took the next 4 points to end the match. No amateur can beat ma long. Only me can do it. In my dreams.

This is in S China. The seafood is the best!
I left here at 160 lb. Came back at 135!
Part diet, part living on the 7th floor, up and down 3 or 4 times a day, walk 6 to 12 miles a day to the ping pong clubs, playing high level players for hours every day.
Typical meal has 5 or 6 different seafoods, 3 or four different veggies and always rice. They don't use much spice or salt. I took my own salt and pepper. Bought some good spice!
Last trip there was for a year and I got sick in the summer. Thought I would die and was getting ready to return to the U.S. when I figured it out. Lack of SALT! It is HOT and very humid in S. China. I would sweat tons playing. They use very little salt. I bought salt and was completely better in 3 days. There is a name for it, cant remember now but can find it on line. And yes, it can be fatal.

Welcome back Hookshot! At 135ib, you must look like you been in a POW camp. That's way too light for a bloke of your height. I recommend you visit your local McDonalds twice a week for a month :P

As for taking sets off Ma...well I'm sure there's someone's Ma out there who you could even beat  :D   :P

Guangzhou or nearby? Sounds quite arduous! And I'll bet the playing venues weren't airconditioned either!

How does one set up a trip like this? You'd probably have to know people to get it set up. Maybe someone should set up some sort of agency, I think there'd be a lot of takers. Even if it's just for a week or a weekend.

Welcome back, hookshot.
Now, I don't have to struggle to wake up early to catch the birds! :)

Sorry, Hookshots and others, for I am going off topic here. Reb's mentioning of "POW" reminds me of this documentary on "American POW's in China". Here is part 4 of 5:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yk1bWOq ... tml5=False
Watch the mentioning of "elephant" @ 9:45...how true! I've watched all 5 parts. Please note, I am not trying to start a debate on politics or on history.

hookshot, you're slipping. I'm sure when you were last active on this forum you'd have beaten Ma Long, no "almost".

Welcome back. :)

I was almost super jealous, now only jealous a lot. I have thought about this, but I am too old for a visa apparently. http://cntttc.com/
