I am intrigued, go on...

How do you chop with this, though? Also think about how many more edge and net opportunities you can get here! I approve.

At least, no more hitting net posts... No side edges, either.

lol, not really... i mean for some, maybe, but others, no idea. For me, I think it will affect me if I ever want to play seriously and get good (I already want to, but no way for me to do so... yet :P ) because I would have to relearn everything, lol

No, I mean, even if this is "legit", you don't imagine they're going to replace every table around the world with one of these, do you? Or change all tournaments to this format?

In any case... what they're probably talking about (in the context of the original post) is launching 44mm leagues or tournaments in places where they don't exist yet:

viewtopic.php?f=9&t=22545&hilit=44mm&start=15#p320781

Apparently it's already popular in Japan and in parts of Europe. If there's no need to "fear" hardbat (or sandpaper), there's no reason to fear this.

Anyhow.. the only video I could find:

I know there are more, but they're in Japanese, and don't come up with an ordinary English search.

I wonder if this is true. It might be ITTF's first step toward another bigger ball. Why else did they call the new plastic ball 40+?

I have to cast my vote for Nerf pong ! It only makes sense, the first rule is to dumb the game down. What better way than by using a Nerfball instead of the poly ball.

Would you call hardbat or sandpaper "dumbing down" table tennis?

None of the 44mm stuff is ITTF certified, by the way, not the balls, in any case. (Maybe the rubber is, so you can use them if you want in regular table tennis, but I wonder.) So they didn't come up with "44+", JTTA did. Why? No idea, maybe just because everyone knows what "40+" means already. I don't see this supplanting regular table tennis, but I can see it catching on in the way hardbat and sandpaper have caught on.

http://www.ttx.world

Over engineered IMO.

We have two versions, normal and hard bat....I think (in UK especially) you just needed an outdoor ball...we have outdoor bats. New rules is just going to confuse people....you'll get kids playing, come to a club, find out proper (boring!) service rules and be disappointed! Mind you....some people don'r abide by service rules anyway!

Casual players will invent their own rules anyway....and the time thing just complicates it...especially if just two of you.

Wonder if any of the rules will make it into real TT...the other issue is...who is going to launch it? TT people are going to want to teach players proper TT....don't have time to try and push another format...

Ah.. finally got the rules to come up:

http://media.wix.com/ugd/85d958_3683519 ... 7b9eed.pdf

You have to click on the LEFT side of the button!

Apparently rubberless bats, a heavier ball. Weird rules. You can yell "Wildcard!" and get two points instead of one.. I suppose this means it's easier to play outside and spin is a lot harder to generate, so it's less of a factor.

I have my opinion of this new thing but Haggisv wont let me post it. :swear:

Any newbee that takes up this new thing would be hard to coach in the real thing. Too many bad habits to break.

If the ITTF would see everything clearly, they'd know the sport still has a lot of problems. But instead of fixing them, they just invent another sport. Imagine the money that went into this project: how this could have been spent on more important things. Another sign how redundant and powerless big governing organisations have become!
