I had a small buying spree recently and did went into research on appropriate material. Funny enough, some interesting rubbers weren't available any longer on Aliexpress/Eacheng but it was quite easy to find some replacement with similar (or equal?) parameters with another name/brand on it. So, it wouldn't come as a surprise when Air, Darker, Gambler turn out to be no 'real' brands but effectively just marketing-brands brought into live by Dawei, Palio, DHS; with a naming that could be more attractive to western customers in the US, Europe and Japan.

I did some search on it and on the vanishing/expiring products but I didn't get into the deep data. Does someone have more information, maybe even proof on in fact equal products under a different name?

I do know that some brands get their rubbers made by Dawei / Palio, but under their own specifications. Gambler is a good example of this, where Zeropong designs the rubbers, and gets them made by a Chinese manufacturer to their specifications.

So it's not necessarily Dawei / Palio releasing these new brands on their own, but it's a new brand approaching them for get their rubbers made by them.
Of course if the rubbers turn out to be good sellers, an unscrupulous manufacturer can easily either sell these out the 'back door', or make the same rubber under their own brand.

Darker Vlon was discontinued by Darker years ago, yet Chinese manufacturers are still making & selling this. I have a strong suspicion that Darker discontinued this because Chinese manufacturers were selling this out the back door, while Darker paid the approval fees and made very little on them. Darker has retained their Japanese-made rubbers, where presumably this does not happen. Avalox has had similar problems with some of their rubbers (and blades too as you might remember from the Avalox Interview).

Avalox and Globe... Those were the days...
I also found a Globe Do on the ITTF list and as far as I remember mine was branded Yasaka, not Globe - but everything else including top and sponge look very similar.

Sorry for the necro

You will not find any products that are re makes of other Chinese rubbers in our line up, previously we have used a joint owned factory (yes Gambler has actual investment in a factory) to produce the bulk of our products.

For 2017 we have another joint investment and have actively taken a formulary role in the ground up production of the Competitor series, this is a family business and my daughter is in her last year of chemical engineering, expect big things!

See you in Vegas

Tom
